What exactly do you have to do for them and wear (or any tips!!??)? Also is it just in general a coloured horse or does it have to be a certain type of horse like a cob?
Do you think my boy would go in one? I am worried now as i have a show tomorrow and i have entered a coloured class??!

He'll be fine, he's stunning! Pretty much anything coloured can go in coloured classes...thus why I never liked them as my traditional didn't stand a chance against the sport horses!

Turn out to type - Im sure tweed is correct..it is for most things! Just go have fun lol Get his white bits gleaming and you cant go wrong

You will be fine. Any coloured can go in it, you turn out to type, How chunky is yours looks a bit like a hunter type to me but could be way off? You could do working hunter aswell as he jumps doesnt he might be worth a try.

hi any more advice gratefully received please as ive just bought a coloured cob, 14.3hh, tricolour, complete with huge mane and lots of feathers, what do i do with him? want to do something but he is not really a jumper yet, but incredible in hand and very handsome, dressage is out so what else is there ridden wise? someone help as im desperate to show him off, need heading in the right direction. THANK YOU and roll on the sunny weekend, feel guilty for being on here tonight and not riding!!

TChamp - First off any coloured class - I know I said I didnt like them with my old Traddy...but she was NOT a show horse lol Didnt work properly so I couldnt have expected to be placed - You may find it a little inconsistant, my friend has a very good Traditional and some judge's love them, some dont! Also theres often a heavyweight cob/Traditional class that he could do.

He sounds young? Apologizes if not, just the jumping comment - anyhoo theres always family horse/pony, Pony club/Riding club pony and those sort of things just to fill up a day and build his experiance x

At your bigger shows they will have individual classes for tradtionals which yours is, so you would be judged to type. You should get him out there at the shows I show its a mixture in the line up of coloured horses. I only do riding club but have done bigger and they do split the classes so dont feel disheartend.

Get your horse out do some inhand classes and do your ridden, Go bigger shows if you like see how you do. Its a bit hit and miss at local shows though as some like traditionals whereas some dont but if your horse is nice and goes well then they place you accordingly well they do at my riding club anyway.

Why cant you do dressage anyway?

thank you both, my oh is laughing at how much time im spending on this forum! firstly, he is 7 and has done some clear round small courses but is unfit at the moment so im just hacking him and doing a bit of school work. secondly, dressage? mmmm i just cant see him doing it, sorry champ if im underestimating your skills! but maybe it is worth a try, hasnt the rider got to be good at it tho to teach the horse haha? have only done a bit but yes lets aim higher. loving all the "traditional" talk and definitely going to look for some shows, any ideas in the west sussex / surrey area? thanks again!

It depends how big of a show you want? You will have a local riding club I am sure what you can have a bash at so you get the hang of it.

Anyhorse can do dressage there was a post the other day about a cob winning at some para dressage so you dont need some fancy wb to do it.

Check this site http://www.ridingdiary.co.uk/ sure it will have something for you on it just had a look and there are plenty but again it depends what kind of show you want.

Have you got any pics of your horse? He will be fine just get out and do it he will prove you wrong

He is lovely though I would wear your tweed jacket, If you have a flat canvesson bridle then horse will wear that think thats what they called??
I used to show my coloured pony as a hunter and wore green tweed jacket, yellow shirt, Green and yellow spotted tie, Canary jods and black leather boots and blue hat just to give you an idea of what to wear if you was to show as a hunter type.

Yeah use that you will have to make sure you get some pics of you and the smart boy,
Does your show do working hunter? I think you would do well in that as he is a
nice clean jumper

Mixture of traditionals and sports horse types round here, but the finer ones usually win to be honest. The judges seem to like them more if they dont have feather. Dont seem to understand it has taken 4 hours to get those furry feet clean and brushed so they are silky!!

hi, i have already taken tonnes of pics of my boy but not sure how to upload them on here, would love to bore you all! says my files too big? anyway off now for a lovely 2 hour pub ride on him, all being well, once ive sulphured his legs and feathers, thanks therease_f for that advice, i got some today, so lets hope he behaves, only his 3rd ride out. will let you all know later. ps horsey girlie night at ours, at last after sharing and loaning for years i am not officially an owner so champagne all round. have a great day everyone, roll on south of england next week and the weather staying like this. ps the oh cleaning the house for me while i ride out, who could ask for more? x
