when i got popeye last year he had been hunting and had his legs clipped and he was hogged but had a full forlock, im intending on giving in hand and ridden showing a go this year so over winter i have been growing his legs and mane. his legs look great nice full feathers but his mane is horrible its just long enough thats its falling over but too short to plat and it will not stay over one side and just sticks out every where what should i do? hog it again or leave it ? i really like his feathers so want to keep those?

Traditional cobs are left hairy, keep plaiting his mane over in long plaits it will soon grow. Try him on a hoof supplement, the same building blocks for hair!

For showing cobs it's either all on as a traditional or all off as a show cob.

You can't mix and match.
 
to be honest i have no idea i have only ever owned TBs and Arabs before so ive never had any dealings with coloureds or cobs his conformation is not the best ( he has short stumpy legs!) but he moves really well and ive been told he has good markings i think he would be good a some sort of working hunter class
 
Clipped out - fully hogged and legs clipped, tail pulled and trimmed.

(Unless of course there is a traditional class, in which case mane, tail and feathers fully grown and natural.)
 
Cobs are supposed to have short legs!!

Thistle and Diablosgold are spot on - it's all or nothing. He needs to be under 15.1 for a cob class - bigger than that and he's a maxi cob.

If he looks like a cob he won't do well in a hunter class but there are working cob classes.

Other options are coloured classes or RC horse.
 
are they oh lol i always thought he was strange coz he is 14.2hh wears a 6ft 3 rug and every thing is eather full or extra full! having a cob has opened up a whole new world!

BTW yours in yummy! Personally, I would have him hogged and clipped out, but that's just me.
 
At his height and with his build he's more of a traditional type. I think you should persevere with growing his mane out - why go through all the hassle over this winter to hog it again and have to try again next winter?
 
I'd show him as a traditional, he isnt the right size for the proper show cob classes and he just doesnt have the quality of front end to carry off the hogged look.

If you do hog him however you need to do it properly that includes pulling his tail and taking off his forelock.
 
i show mine too..although he is much thicker in the neck than your boy...

he is fully hogged and trimmed with a pulled tail.....

As much as I like traditional coloured cobs (see my boy in my avatar) and hairy M&amp;Ms, so would usually would advise all on, yours looks fab hogged and clipped! He has the face for it and I personally think he looks more like he should be hogged than not.
