So an appaloosa crossed with a skewbald gives us a lovely little coloured filly that also has dark and light spots. Is there a term for this colouring out there at all?

they're just spots that tobiano causes.
It used to be thought (and it does still go round) that 'cat tracks' indicated that the horse was homozygous for tobiano but that's not true.

pintaloosa would be tobiano +LP+ other spotting genes and this horse only has the first one.

Is it like a pintaloosa?

Yes, LP plus Tobiano colouring is usually known as pintaloosa.

Having said that, from the photos this horse looks more like a tobiano with a few ink spots. It's interesting because you usually see ink spots with homozygous tobiano and in the first post it says that the horse only has one tobiano parent. The white spot in the first photo just looks like a very small patch of tobiano rather than a 'spot' caused by something else.

Ah, it's good to know that bit of updated info, I'll remember that. :)

My sister's pony is by an appaloosa stallion and out of a bay NF mare. No idea who the stallion was but must have been coloured/spotted as the mare is definitely coloured/spotted. Full characteristics and colour changes yearly. She was bay and white when she came at 2, now roan with spots.IMG0040A.jpg
