I was always taught that if you'd buy it regardless of colour it was a good colour. But then... I accidently acquired two coloured ponies and I love 'em... one is a fantastic hanovarian and the other... a bit pikey...
now it's my colour of choice. Not a helpful post this is it really...
Some coloured horses do look like "gypsy horses" to me! But some I absoloutely adore, like Rosiie's Oshka, Calliwallidoodle's Calli, Mickey's Ruben's law, seaofdream's lottie and a couple at my RS. I would love to own one one day as I could really fall in love with some!!
What annoys me is when people want, and therfore try to breed, a horse that does not come in skewbald/piebald or any non-solid colours. Either you buy a coloured horse OR you buy the breed you want.
As you can see from the pictures below I am a coloured horse fan, We got woody the coloured mare with foal at foot 9 years ago before coloured horses were "fashionable" and she made me fall in love with them, Frankie (horse in fisrt 2 pics) was bought as we knew the sire (masterpiece who is coloured) and he cemented my love for coloureds, when i bought a project pony to bring on we bought coloured (last picture) and i have to say she is very eye catching.
I would have bought any of these horses had they been plain coloured, for me their colour makes them stand out in a crowd, when they are clean, it does give them that something extra (IMO)!
I owned an apaloosa in the days when only cowboys and circus people went near horses of that colour. He was the the most brilliant horse imaginable, jumped, perfect hack, etc, but was bought for a song because of his markings. Now they would make him worth double. Funny old world.
All 3 of mine are coloured and my first pony was also coloured. Didn't go out looking for one just fell in love with him and since then have only ever owned coloureds. All different breeds though, first horse was a heavyweight cob (piebald), then i got Liz who is T.B x cob x percheron (blue and white), Ted the shetland (skewbald), and Bella D.W.B x Friesian(piebald). Adore them all and they are all different. It's there colouring that made them stand out to me!
