Sorry for yet another showing post, but having never done a coloured class before, am a bit :confused:

AFAIK what tack the horse wears is according to it's type so for Billy who would most likely be a LW hunter he has a double with plain browband and the bridle should be quite thick set.
However, my thick hunter bridle (the cheapy kincade one which is actually quite nice when oiled) is too short with the double bits so I have a choice of thin square raised type (which is also slightly too short) or a thin hunter type bridle which looks a shade too thin for his head (which is beautiful, but definately a hunters head ) but at least the cheekpieces are just long enough for the double...
What would you do? I am loathed to splash out on an extra full hunter double for one show...

I'm in a tweed, navy hat with flesh harness, brown gloves (horrors of horrors no cane though) and green tie, beige breeches, long black boots and spurs... what am I forgetting?

Also, does the judge ride in a coloured class? As I have a jumping saddle or the dressage, if judge was going to ride I would be using the jump or if the judge wasn't riding I would be using the dressage...

And finally, another question, is he a LW type? I think so, but then someone told me today that he could be a riding horse - opinions?

Sorry for all the questions, I can do normal classes but coloureds I have never watched or had an interest in before :p
 
I know nothing about showing but felt the need to say ... Wow hes looking great atm, back end looks alot better aswell ... :p
 
he is 17h, and is 5 years old :)
He has approx 8 and a half inches, haven't measured in a while, will re-measure them :)
 
Turnout is according to type - so as he is plaited you could turn out either as hunter or riding horse - the only difference is a coloured browband as far as turnout is concerned, so being a hunter is fine. In terms of description he is a non native horse.

As to whether the judge rides, this is differnet for the two coloured societies (BSPA and CHAPS) - having said that, as he is over 15hh, he will be ridden by the judge for both societies. Unless it is a show where the judge is not riding (depends on the class you are doing) in which case it will be an individual show.

If the show is an unaffiliated one i.e. riding club, trailblazers, local show etc, then the judge is probably less likely to ride, but it is still possible.

You should carry a cane to be correct, and also wear your hair in a bun.

Erin, I have tried, but they aren't thick enough to go up the leather! :(
 
In the first pic, are you at a 'showing' show? If so, can you do without the white saddle cloth and the breast plate?

Keep it simple. Less is more.
 
He's lovely :)

Id have said his was a lw hunter as opposed to a riding horse. So turnout would be plain tack and plaited even in a coloured class.

He could will be ridden by judge but be careful with your saddle if jumping saddle covers too much of hi shoulder don't use it, also think which would feel better for the judge.
