I've noticed some really nice coloured stallions appearing on stud website's like o combo and utah, has anyone got any offspring by them or any other coloured stallions? I often here some prejudice about coloured horses in competition?! i don't understand why if they are talented athletic horses, does the colour really matter?
 
I have a Vincent II colt, that I am over the moon with. I always apply the premise of would I breed from this horse if it was bay when looking at coloureds that way I can't be colour blinded but in answer to your question no colour doesn't matter, some people are anti coloured some people are pro (i'm perched on the fence because I like coloureds but won't breed for colour and my coloured foal is the first time ive used a coloured), people are also anti grey or anti chestnut, in truth colour should be the last thing to be considered when breeding: temperament, pedigree, performance, soundness, conformation etc should all come first imo.
 
I am not anti any colour, but I am pro unusual colours, hence I have some coloured foals and hopefully next year some palomino foals too.
As horsegroupie says, before using a coloured stallion you have to consider all the other aspects of the stallion and whether he is a good match for your mare.
But we all have certain things we want as an overriding criteria - it might be that given that everything else ticks the boxes, you desperatly want some Donnerhall blood, so you make your selection from stallions carrying his bloodline, or you desperatly dont want a grey, so you exclude all grey stallions, or you have to have a stallion that has competed internationally, so you disregard younger stallions etc etc
I want coloured foals, so make my selection from the small group of coloured stallions that fit all my other criteria. I know that as yet there is no coloured stallion to match up to the likes of Weltmeyer or Baloubet De Rouet, but I still select the best stallion for my mare within the restrictions I have set - namely colour.

I manage a showing yard and the predjudice amoungst old school judges against not just colour, but dirty warmblood blood is quite eye opening. A good horse is a good horse, regardless of colour, brand, owner - just need to convince the showing world of that!
 
I have got a coloured 2 yr old by a young coloured WB stallions called Alderfarn VII (see: http://www.equineservices.co.uk )
I could not be more pleased with my boy, his mum is WB X Welsh D and he is soo athletic. Jumps for fun(if you can call fun, jumping 4ft electric fencing - and clearing them - as a yearling several times!) He's been out showing in hand and won every time bar once (3rd). He's just a shade off 16HH now at 27 months and I am so excited to see what he turns into. I never used to like coloureds so much but he changed me...I bought him coz I liked him not just the colour and now have also got a coloured mare in foal for '08. I am very fussy about coloureds though...they do have to be as correct as I would expect to see in a solid coloured horse and the marking have to be right....I love thus filly in Volatis' siggy...Diva I think you said she was..

Your boy looks really mature eventrider, our 2yo coloured is only just starting to fill out, all he has done is grow up till now.
He looks a good stamp too, Alderfarn is half Trakehner isn't he - cant beat a bit of Trakehner blood

Thanks for your kind words about Diva. I am over the moon how she has turned out, I just cant fault her, movement, conformation, temperament, so the markings are such a bonus. Very tempted to breed her mother back to the same stallion next year.
 
I personally like ummeno and vincent II, dont particularly think goshka ringo himself is special but love his foals (strange I know!). I've also seen some lovely youngsters by Oberon (whom I also dont think is particularly amazing but throws lovely foals) - one of which has qualified and been placed at HOYS in showing for the last 3 years (from aged 4!!)

Coloureds are popular at the minute but as with many things in the horse world fads and fashions change, I remember when greys were popular, I think with some people coloured are like marmite, you either love them or hate them and prejudices always work both ways. I hate showing etc for the biases in it.

Cheers for that Volatis. He is VERY mature for his age but I am also lucky that he hasn't grown too fast at the same time. My vet was cooing over him on Monday because he has grown so well so I am very lucky. He's never really hit a really ugly duckling stage.....yet... His dad is about 3/4 trakehner I believe but only 1/2 is verified and I love it in him as he hasn't got the sharp streak but has got all the quality and movement from it. I love the tiny bit of Welsh in him too as its given him the really strong feet and a few other nice qualities without having anything cobby about him.
I think the plan is going to be to back him and play about quietly with him in about May next year if he stays nice and strong. He was only supposed to make about 16.1 but seeing as he's now near enough 16HH at the moment then he may well have a really gangly stage to come next year/this winter. Might do PAVO 2 yr old with him for the experience in October if he isn't to gangly.
Diva really is nice. I am soo fussy about my coloureds now but I would have her in a shot!
I too love the look of Ummeno and Vincent and adore some of the stock they've thrown. Would be tempted though to put one of my mare's back to my boy's dad (Alderfarn) though as have also loved the stock he's thrown to the quality mare's he's gone to and all of their temperaments have been fab, etc. etc.
 
That foal is lovely springfall. very sweet looking and nicely marked. Small world - I used LOC to transport my above 2 yr old down from Wales when I got him at 9 months! Also like the look of your Unbelievable Darco 2 yr old filly - did you breed her yourself?
 
I guess most colour breeders believe they are singing the same hym Catza, colour should be irrelevant, a good stallion should produce offspring that even when their progeny don't have the splodges are still appealing and can still do the job that they were bred for

and thanks Navalgem, I'm very fond of Umenno too! surprise surpise and I am missing him terribly!

as for pics, have quite a few of Umenno's offspring on our website, but heres the latest arrival owned by clients, a very pleasant suprise as the mare was scanned not in foal and was only discovered when scanning this spring in prep for breeding again! The dam is a French TB mare and he oozes class and look at me presence and has his daddies rich golden chestnut markings, will probably make around 17.2 like his other siblings from various sires, his dam throws BIG, one by Tornado is now 18hhs!

I had a really hard time choosing which coloured stallion to use with my coloured mare, and narrowed it down to 3. I contacted Cilla Humphries, who owns Utah and we met at the NEC when he was jumping. She let me lead him out the box, and groom him and he was so quiet, laid back and polite i just fell in love with him! I have a year old filly now who is by Utah, and she is the sweetest, prettiest, kindest little sole ever! She has never kicked, bitten or put a foot wrong.
She moves like she is floating, and has jumped over the stable door from a standstill a few times, so has real promise! I cant speak highly enough of him!!!
 
Does anyone know anything about the stallion Setters Hill? Where is he now?

He used to stand in Herefordshire in 93-94.

Does anyone have anything by him?
 
we have a very nice foal but not coloured which just goes to show what some of you were saying about being as nice and not coloured

Hi,

Does anyone know where the coloured stallion NERON is standing? He is by Netron out of Rosita. I think his in Holland. Does anyone know anything about him, any pictures?

My two year old filly is American Paint ( www.westernwaystud.com ) cross TB. Luckily she moves like a TB and jumps like a stag. The mare is a lovely mover and I think that's compensated for the APH as they don't tend to be terribly good movers - in my opinion. Would others agree with that? I don't know how to get a colour photo up of her just have the black and white one in my signature thingy of her as a yearling. Someone did ask me on here a few weeks ago if I had photoshop'd the markings!!!! I've always had TB's and always solid colours but something made me purchase this this one as a weanling! I am very critical on stallion conformation and I must admit there are some lovely sports horse stallions out there with splodges on them!
 
The coloured in my sig is by Lucky Dealer- 7/8ths tb. There are 3-4 of us on here that have horses by him and biased I know but they all have fantastic temperaments and fantastic paces.

It was linda Sutherland who bred all of ours when she had the Meiklecantly stud (now folded) but I believe Lucky Dealer ended up in Buckinghamshire somewhere.

If I could get another of his line I would in a flash :)
 
I have 2 SAMBERTINO offspring. 2 Bay Fillies and 2 Coloured Oldenburg Colts. The oldest is 3 who is Kenniford Samberina, the next is 2yr old Kenniford Samberstar and last year Kenniford Samberumba and Kenniford Sambersplash were born!!! They are all lovely youngsters and as you can tell i am starting to collect Sambertino babies! Plenty of pics on website, cant figure out how to get them on here since forum changed! kennifordstud.co.uk.
