I have recently bought a dun irish sport horse gelding, although I have his white and navy saddlepads for out competing, I'm wondering what colours would suit him for polo wraps, saddlepads and halters ect? I'm not quite sure what "shade" he is, but I'd say he's a bay dun or a buckskin but he's really your stereotypical tea coloured dun with black points!

I'm guessing he's a buckskin, being Irish. ;)
I have two buckskins; one is very pale and the other is a very rich golden (though they both go slightly darker in winter). The darker of the two is mostly dressed in orange (though he also looks nice in golds and tans -basically the same sort of shade as his coat and mud/grey-brown sort of colours) and also yellow.

The paler of the two is mostly in yellow but I also have him in creams, lemon and again, tan.

Both also look nice in pale blue and also dark/bottle green.

Having a buckskin Irish boy myself, I can say that forest green looks really nice. I find more natural earthy colours look best on my boy so for competitions we use white or black and out and about its forest green or chocolate brown depending on which is clean at the time. Although according to him the colour that suits him best is mud and lots of it!

I would never have thought of yellow on a dun! Has anyone got some pics as I have a dun too :)

Not got a dun like yours, Tiger Tail (is yours a red dun? - my eyesight is terrible!) but here's my paler buckskin in yellow:

As a side note, if yours is red based, I've got a red based Paint cross and I chucked my other boy's yellow headcollar on him for quickness, to take him to the field and it looked fab! I would never have thought of yellow on red/chestnut but it works!

Here's my darker boy in orange (excuse the poo in the background):

There should only ever be four colours used on any horse. Black, brown, white (for dressage only) and navy at a push, and small chrome buckles on very plain tack....I think I'm in a minority of 1 on this though!

Better chuck my bottle green stuff away then - and I thought I was conservative! My horse has a massive choice of black, dark grey or dark green accessories.

Gosh surprised how good the orange looks on the dun :D

Yes mines a red dun and as such I tend to avoid yellows / oranges but won't now!

Bottle green for me. Got him a green, gold and pink brow band too for showing and got my self a riding jacket with green stripe in it, and a green and gold tie. We looked rather smart I thought! Love my new dun boy!
