My colt has had a swollen sheath for 48hrs now - it looks like 2 testicles in the wrong place, but no sign of them yet! He is not bothered by me touching it and it is not overly hot. It has very small spots of blood all over it (as if tiny flies have bitten him) and it looks as if his penis is bloody, but when it comes out, it is fine. Think the blood is just aroufn the inside of the sheath. Havne't spoken to vet yet, and don't really want to pay extortionate weekend fees if I don't have to! Any idea what it could be? I may try to clean it tomorrow - would weak hibiscrub solution be ok? he probably won't let me, but will give it a go!

Yeah I would say a swollen sheath with blood would be a vet job. You should contact your vet for advise and they may be able to put your mind at ease.

My boy had a swollen sheath earlier in year and it ended up in him having very serious gut issues :-(

My cousin's gelding had a swollen sheath & the vet thought he had an infection so was put on anti biotics, once a bit of swelling went down & the vet examined it further he'd actually been bitten by an adder whilst lying down in the field..would definately get it looked at by vet..
