Colts and disappearing plums ?!

Hi hoping someone can shed some light on this situation! I have 2 yearling colts, the first one dropped his plums together at 7 months and been there ever since :-) my second boy is giving me the right run around!!!! Had 1 at 7 months then both appeared a month later but since then one is up and down like a yo yo! Checked yesterday and back to just one, is this normal, does it happen a lot? They both have lovely temperaments, one plum can be a bit nibbley but not bad. Wanted to have them gelded by now really but don't want the vet out only to sedate and not find both plums :-/ have posted in breeding as well, wasnt sure where to put thread!
 
This is quite common. Sometimes they disappear completely as foals and not reappear for months or even a year or more which is very irritating when they need gelding.

At least you know yours definitely has two, which is what the vet will want to know when it is time to geld, and the fact that one is coming and going frequently means it won't be hidden too far up in the abdomen which would be potentially very invasive (and expensive) to remove.

Have a chat with your vet, explain that he often has two showing, and I'm sure an experienced equine vet would have no problem with that.
 
I have two NF's who I fully intended gelding, but they're just so damn quiet it would be a waste of money unless I plan to sell them :o/

They 4 and 5, and both have 'stones' which go up and down depending how relaxed they are, how warm it is, etc. If they definitely have both, the vet will quickly and easily be able to manipulate them down to geld them.
 
They can suck them back up, I had this once with a colt I bought. He had 2 huge descended spuds but when the vet came to geld there was only one (grumpy vet & confused me) one sedation later and the other popped down again lol
 
The donkey 'gelding' I've had since August that my friend bought in the January is three this year and just dropped a pair surprising us all!!
He has been out with my mares since he arrived too!
SURPRISE!!
Having said that he is not at all stalliony, I do wonder if he has overcooked them keeping them hidden so long.
