Volunteering? Aren't they not a stud? In which case make them pay you if you have the experience with horses etc. Or find a local charity to volunteer to
Well apparantly they take volunteers from this organization called WWOOF?
from which I gather finds organic farms to place volunteers on and work in exchage for accomidation and food from what I gather.
I popped an email to Combe about it summer just gone but they where full, so was thinking about applying again early next year.
I just want experiance around arabian horses and general working away on a yard tbh haha, I was thinking perhaps going abroad within the future and travelling/working on yards but wanted some experiance here first.
There are plenty of other Studs excepting WWOOF and you may get more from a Newmarket Thoroughbred Stud if you are wanting foaling and general stud experience.
Failing that Veterinary Practices in/around Newmarket again accept WWOOF placements, and starting January plenty of mare and foals about.
It does depend upon what you want to experience and work.
I know of one stud not too far from me who basically use WWOOF people as their very own 'gardeners' as they have only 1 foal a year. Lovely accommodation though and if that's what you want then fine.
oh dear.
I guess I'll avoid, doesn't seem anyone has anything good to say about it.
I'm just struggling finding places, I only knew about the WWOOF program through combe farms site, I don't particularly want to pay to see the WWOOF list.
Only other place I know, kind of thing I like the sound of is the British Racing school but I've already been rejected in the past due to age ( will be 21 in jan ) - plus I'm a bit too fat at the moment
I bought my filly from Combe Farm and have been there many times. If you want to be around arabs, you won't find many places like this. During the summer, the mares and foals run free on the main lawns of the hotel (think Jane Austin novels to imagine the hotel). They are beautifully cared for and are trained naturally from birth. I have spoken to a few girls who have stayed there for the same experience that you are looking for and they have loved it there. Michael is a warm and friendly man full of knowledge he is willing to share. Don't expect top of the range facilities or accomodation but you would be treated as part of the family. The food that I have had there has been proper home cooked yumminess.
I agree with the others that you will learn a huge amount at the TB studs but it depends on what you want to take from your experience.
