The combination lock on my field gate has decided to not open. It opened fine yesterday lunchtime then wouldn't open yesterday evening or this morning. Have wd40'd it but is made no difference. Does anyone have any tips?

Padlock is the right way up. It has one more chance with another spray of WD at lunch time today, as hopefully that will be the 'warmest' part of the day. If not it will be cut off

Turn it upside down when you do it. The two we used had been in place over a year and would not undo. Filled right up upside down, a very liberal spray and opened up after a couple of hours.

Tip: to avoid frozen or corroded padlocks, wrap them in a "sock" made of the corner of a polythene feedsack.

If you keep the water/damp out, then you slow down their corrosion rate and stop them freezing.

Spray oil will lubricate them.

WD40 will free-off slightly corroded ones, but also thins any oil inside so after WD40'ing, you might want to do a light oil too.
