78 with new horse but it was 89 when I retired the old TB. Our local riding club show has a special prize for the oldest combination in their veteran showing class, I was a cert for it until the old boy threw a complete wobbly at the judges hat, disappeared backwards at high speed and nearly had me off. I retired of course!
Birthday on Saturday so as I'm nearly a year older we'd be a scary 76!!!! Eek!!!
Btw OP, my boys birthday isn't til may and I count his age from then. Since when did all horses get older on January 1st? (thought that was just racehorses - but in sure someone will be along soon to correct me ....!). 😄
Just managed to scrape into the 76 to 80 band, as my birthday is next month and the Draft horse's actual birthday is 1st March, while her official birthday is 1st May (she could never be mistaken for a TB!).
I don't follow the Jan 1st thing, which comes from the racing industry requiring everything to be the same age, when in reality, a foal can be born at any time of the year. I know for a fact my horse was born on May 2nd, so why on earth not have her birthday then?
You ninny, yours is 77, based on your main ride if we all added 2 or 3 horses the poll wouldn't be worth doing
To those questioning the age definition,
As vets and those selling base a horses age on the year, thus all change age on 1st Jan for most purposes.
You dont put a 4 yr old in young stock in hand just because it isn't 4 till June, also a 'rising ' 4 yr old can be taken to shows, riding club, pony club and the like from now and not wait till later in the year
