i've heard you can get combined tens and muscle stims can anyone reccomend any of these? i think it might be worth trying a tens on Pip to help with the tension she gets from her stifle issues but thought if we were getting one it might be worth have the stim part too - can anyone reccomend anything?

TENS is only a pain relieving method of electrotherapy, muscle stim stimulates and builds the muscle.
Have you spoken to a Physio for advice to make sure you are going to muscle stim the right muscle?
TENS only provides relief when on, no real carry over of pain relief after the machine is turned off.

yes have talked this over with professionals and we've decided that it cant hurt to try :) just something to give between sessions and after slightly more intense work. the muscle stim would help as due to the stifle issues which we are trying to treat the effects of, she doesn't build up muscle behind as much as she should do and always looks 'weak' behind, despite correct work

I bought this one below from ebay and it is a brilliant machine with all the adjustable settings my physio's one has. The company are extremely helpful - I would recommend calling them as you will bneed the rubber pads rather than the adhesive ones for horses. I just use some conductive gel too with mine. Great value at £40. Horse loves it.

My horse has chronic sacro illiac dysfunction so I place the pads high on his sacral area around 10 " apart. Also over on the r/h side as that is where his injury was. You are basically working the muscles - I am sure there must be Youtubes for various muscle groups.
The programme runs for 15 mins and that is generally the length of treatment I give him. I have played a bit with the intervals and intensity and gauaged it by how his muscles react - you see them contract quite visibly. He really enjoys the sensation. I suggest you try it on yourself - it is quite weird, but painless. The idea is to have the 2 pads at either end of the muscle group you want to exercise. I hope this helps. I think Armas posted up a video of the treatment for his boy. Someone questionned the pad at the neck (his horse had an SI issue) and my physio also placed a pad at the neck to stimulate the nerves there as they all interconnect.

You really need to get a physio to come and show you the muscle groups. My bible is Mary Bromiley's book Equine Injury, Therapy and Rehabilitation. Very concise, with plenty of diagrams.

Sadly there are no physios on France (!!!!), only chiros and I am not sure I am convinced by their claims. I will try the book thanks.

Sorry for hijacking OP! Hope you find this information useful as well!
