Hi my horse is on a manintenance dose of Global Herbs Super Calm and has been for 10 months (1 blue scoop in morning feed is all she needs) with good reults. She had a bout of colic a couple of weeks ago, thankfully she was ok but someone has suggested giving her NAF Pink Powder as this helps the hind gut, does anyone give their horses both supplements or does anyone know if it is safe to do so?

Hi i don't feed either of your supplements but Lucy has a few all at the same time and is fine. All mine are from the same company so i rang them to check if it was ok. Maybe you could ask your vet if they think it's ok. Sorry can't be of any more help.

I dont use both products but I do use Pink Powder alongside many others:

Cider Vinegar
Premierflex Plus
Garlic
Oil

No ill effects on my horse but if you are concerned then I would speak with Global Herbs or NAF to put your mind at rest.

Sorry to hear about the colic. My girl suffered with colic last summer and it was such a worrying time. She has been on Pink Powder since!

Thanks SmartieBean, thats interesting to hear you have used Pink Powder since, do you think it has helped? Colic is awful, it was the worst night it was such a relief when she started to pull round. When I look back she must have had acid in her stomach for up to a week before as she was really grumpy and worse than normal when doing her rugs etc. Do you use a maintenance dose of the Pink Powder?

I used baileys pre-biotic after my lad had a few bouts of colic and I am sure this would be ok to use with the calmer, but baileys would be able to advise.

Belle31, so strange that you should mention the acid and the fact that she was uncomfortable with you doing up her rugs. Jamin had been exactly the same and I believe this is down to an acid problem too. Ive cut out all cereal from her diet and she is a different pony.

I cut out the Pink Powder a for a couple of weeks and noticed that her dropping were VERY loose again. I put her back on the Pink Powder and she has "perfect" poos now lol!

I definately believe it has made a difference to her and will be keeping her on it from now on. She has changed so much and for the better since changing her diet that I will not risk changing it again. Fingers crossed no more colic for the both of us!!!

I use the maintenance dose yes. 2 scoops per day. Seems to last for ages! I pay about £14 for it.

If you do try the Pink Powder, it would be great to hear how you get on.

Good Luck x

The Calmer is not a supplement but an additive, there is a distinct difference. A supplement refers to general vits/mins. Additives refer to things like joint care products, calmers and pre/probiotics or anything that targets a specific problem.

I have heard good things about Global Herbs products, but I really dislike the way that they do not tell you what is in any of their products, for instance, there could be a probiotic in their calmer but we cannot tell because they don't declare it. I would imagine that there is not, as they have ok'd it to feed with Pink Powder, which does have a probiotic combined with vits/mins, doubling up on probiotics (or anything for that matter) does not make it work better and in many cases can have the opposite effect so, in this case you were right to check. In general, however, a good rule of thumb is feed only 1 supplement but add as many additives as your horse requires.

Pink Powder is an excellent general purpose supplement, with the added bonus that it also contains pre and probiotics, this is why your horse's droppings are better for it.
