So.... who was in pony club then.... If so which one? I was in Cowdray Hunt PC from 1996 - 2000.

If anyone has some dastardly PC moments please share! I remember falling off at the same fence every year at camp. Evil fence number 2 damn it!

Balbeggie Pony Riding Club which was fantastic as it provided ponys for children from non horsey/poor backgrounds. You could also ride these ponys during the week/weekends there was no rally and in the school holidays. Also Perth Hunt Pony Club when I was lucky enough to have my own pony

Yes it meant she could go in the PC champs assoc. classes and she won a super cup, she had to do showjumping and then round some xc fences , it was a new cup as it was the first year they did it

Hi all!

Coming from Liverpool, joined South Lancs PC (late 60s!), but didn't have a pony! Wore all my best weekly riding lesson gear when Mum + Nan took me to watch rallies, but no-one offered me a ride, + DC/instructor never noticed me (what a sad child i was).

Got my own back, tho, years later, in my 20s, when i + my mates took our ponies to their shows! We were good competitors, but we were late once, and they waited for us before they started!

Then another time, i won the annual trophy for the non-member winning the most points.

I clutched it to my chest and rode with one hand as the Red Devils took off as we tried to quietly hack home past Speke airport!!

I never did return the trophy, + it's still on my mantelpiece!! (I'm now 50!!)

I hope all other PC memories are as vivid and as funny as mine!

Long may PC, in its true essence of horsemanship, comradeship, and sportsmanship, and especially fun, continue.

Every best wish to all, BS x

Axe Vale 1975-1981 ish. I loved that Pony Club.

Then as Secretary and general dogsbody to another one for 5 years.

Cumberland Farmers Hunt North, 1993-1999. Fantastic times... though always remember Old Church Farm xc rally. Was the first on grass after the winter (always at Easter) and all the ponies went bananas. Remember one year falling off 8 times in an hour (pony was a broncer) and my Mum yelling at me to get back on or he was getting sold. Fun fun fun.

North shropshire pc, think i left about 5 years ago. pc camp was the highlight of my year when i was younger. i left coz it was a bit cliquey for me. my pony was nutty and didn't do dressage, and was therefore not a proper pc pony. i was the awkward kid at rallies who's pony jumped huge, so had to go in a ride with the bigger horses, then messed up the jump strides for everyone. i remeber one pc camp being in a ride with 3 lads riding 16hh plus horses, plus 2 tall girls on 15hh cobs, then there was me on a 13hh show pony thing! should have seen us when we had to swap horses! those were the days!

I was in the Eridge from about 1976 to around 1984...can't remember the exact dates

Remembercamps at first were held at Beltring Hop Farm in the old Oasts, then latterly at the south of england showground at ardingly. Beltring brimgs back the fondest memories though

Gave up PC when i was about 14 though as was getting quite seriously into my BSJA and PC showjumping was too low level back then...and not really on the radar of the Eridge anyway

I was in the Tetrathlon Team for a number of years...albeit only really any good at the riding and shooting parts...running and swimming were too much like hard work

Famous people in at the same time as me would include a certain Mrs Funnell...or Nolan as she was then lol! I remember her on Jeremy Fisher and latterly Sir Barnaby too...how they progressed !

East Stirlingshire (in Scotland), can't remember when (early 80s I think) but I was only in for a year, as I didn't have a pony, Da refused to cough up to hire one, and the club didn't do dismounted rallies, you had to have a pony and that was that...

I was in Woodland Hunt in 1990's, but was the one that had lot's of mutterings about 'unsuitable horses' and always had to borrow something well behaved for the exams LOL !

You wouldn't have been that many years after Pippa...think she was still an active member in around 1986 or so...i'm trying to remember when she went off to train at Ruth McMullen's

We too had rallies in the park...and the tetrathlon x-c and running were in there too. Long before the BE course was put back in though.

I rememberone particular instructor...Alex Pinsent...who struck fear into everyone she taughr...but she WAS very good

I guess you might have come across Angie Whittington more recently ? She taught me to ride and we based on her yard for a number of years.

Trying to think of other names that might have still been around

Bob Butler. The Russell's. The Spencer's. The Calcutt's...the list is endless !

TGM are you still in Eridge?? I expect you know lots of people i do then, plus have about 5 Eridgers on our yard...I miss pony club!!!

Small world ! One of our best friends bacl then lived in Mark Cross too...just past The Legat Ballet School (as was)...and i went to School just up the road in Mayfield

Angie taught me how to ride...but she also taught me to be a little less obnoxious too
blush.gif
Spent most of my spare weekends and holidays working down on her yard. I believe the riding school has gone now and Francis and Bryony now have it ?

Francis was about 3 or 4 when i was last there and Bryony just a baby

Didn't ANYONE else belong to The Axe Vale? (Except for Mary Thompson of course)

This PC thing has been done before I am sure, and nobody mentioned AVH then either

Devon Clubs as a whole have a pretty sad showing, where are the Members of East Devon, Cotley, Spooners, Mid Devon, Silverton etc, etc? On HHO I have 'bumped' into people from all over the place, but rarely from Devon.
