Lovely Northamptonshire again!

ERA is compiling a report to take to BE on this slightly thorny subject. I believe from threads on here etc that the general feeling is that there should be a LOT more transparency, that published Waitlists should be kept at all events, people given places in the order that they are on the waitlist (which doesn't necessarily happen now), fair refunds given if a place filled (even at the last minute), refunds given more swiftly maybe?
Do you agree?
If so, why have we only received a grand total of 12 (yes, really) responses to our anonymous survey on this?!
The survey's at
http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/92M586J

Please, if you feel strongly about this, tell us! Give 2 mins of your time to fill in the survey so we can do something about this unfair situation which some Organisers apparently exploit while others are scrupulously fair. I can't believe that only 12 people (actually 11, because someone contacted me because they were trying to fill it in for 2 diff events, so we had to change the survey slightly to allow another go etc) can be bothered to give us information that we can take to BE to try to actually get a change to make the system fairer for everyone!
ERA. attempting to combat Event Rider Apathy. with really pointy boots... ;) ;)

I have tried to complete it, but its difficult.

I have done it now, but have only had to withdraw from one event which was over a week ago so they've not had much chance to pay me my refund.

I also try to plan my diary and use my ballot sticker for the events I want to compete in, and I make sure I get my entry in very early so have been lucky not to be waitlisted - if I was though, I would like to see the list in order so you can see your name working its way to the top!

All other events have cancelled although I did receive a prompt refund.

I did the survey earlier!!

However, one thing I wasn't aware of as I had to email an organiser to ask when I would get a refund as I had been refunded other competitions that were cancelled after the competition I am still waiting for and they said as I had entered after the ballot date my refund would take longer than those that entered before the ballot date.

How so???, seeing as this competiton was cancelled a week after Ballot date or am I missing something somewhere??????

The thing is you can feel really, really strongly about this but not be able to fill the survey out properly as you haven't been waitlisted or had to withdraw this season...

Or maybe you already feel so strongly you only compete at BE events who already have a transparent (and kept to!) withdrawal/refund policy, so again you wouldn't be filling out the survey.

I know 'technically' you can fill it out, but in the above 2 x situations (which I believe most riders fall into) you won't be giving a true reflection of how you feel it is run/should be run as the first few questions are aimed at specific events.

Yes, i see your point... but we need specific info to do something with, I believe. It doesn't have to be this year's events, but obv harder to remember specifics about events from last year or before that.
FlyingCoo, have you put that in the survey, please? Is it possible to? I'll bring it to the attention of the person who is compiling the info, if not. Thanks.

At the time when I did the survey I was still waiting for the refund which at that time I thought was taking an age as to be fair most other events have been under 4 weeks in refunding. I have only found out this week about the ballot reason for the delay so if you could highlight it that would be great ta muchly :)

I filled in the survey when you first posted it, about the one event this year that I have withdrawn from, & didn't receive a refund, where I suspect it would have been possible, had a proper waitlist been held.

I didn't mention another one where I withdrew, but do not think I was replaced, tho' could have had a vets certificate, if I had thought it would do any good!

I also didn't mention the slow refunds from 2 cancelled events, as the survey seemed to want info about just one event.

Please let me know (PM if preferred) if you want additional info on these.

FC is this Oatridge? As I am also waiting on this one. I have had Aske back which I entered AFTER Oatridge cancelled and also had Eglinton back and had Hutton back for ages which I think cancelled only 2 days before Oatridge did

Hi quizzie, yes please.
It will now accept info about another event from the same IP address, had to have it changed.
Wording on question 6 will be altered, it seems it doesn't accept decimals, and if you didn't get a refund please enter '0' and it should be happy with that!

Thanks everyone. The more info the merrier we will be... we CAN try to do something about this unfair situation at present, but we need specifics.

Hi all,

Just to let you know there is no difference to the refund if you enter before or after ballot in instances of abandonment. The claim goes in as one for each event and they are all refunded at the same time.

Also regarding Oatridge – the event cancelled and so all refunds need to come from them and not us.

Feel free to email any queries relating to abandonment refunds to info@britisheventing.com.

Many thanks & enjoy the Olympics!

I went to do it thinking it would be a general survey but it has to relate to a particular event, so I think lack of response is due to it being too specific.
FWIW I think that for events don't keep a wait list you should be able to 'sell' your entry, ie substitute both horse and rider for a small additional fee.
I also think that events should ballot on ballot date not a week or so later!
