that I am too old at 62 to bring my 3 year old TB filly on so have to sell her. She is a lovely girl,went into training ...but too laid back!! Guess I still think I am young enough to do it all but she just needs someone younger who will give her the right education.
Hard to admit my short comings ...regret seeing her go but have to be practical.

How very sad for you. But if you think it's the right thing for the horse then well done you for putting her first.
 
Why do you feel its too much at 62? I'm not trying to be smart, I've never brought a youngster on so I'm curious is all!
 
im still hoping to be riding at 62! but you are making the right choice if you dont think you can do it.
have you considered loaning to someone to bring her on? then you dont have the heartbreak of selling.
 
Just feel I want to be a happy hacker now,not really too much to do but just don't have the heart or energy or enthusiasm anymore. She is actually easier to ride than my arab who is quite excitable but easier for me to get on!
I have always loved youngsters because they are unspoilt by anyone else and you can get them so well schooled, I've just run out of steam I guess. She has so many potential abilities that I am sad that I can't educate her any further. I have had her for just over a year. Everyone who meets her loves her. Last summer she was out 24/7 and if she was lying down in the field you could go up and scratch her ears for her! such a softy!

I am looking for £1,000 for her in keeping with present market but I do think she is special! Well ..I would woundn't I!
 
Bargain horse for someone. I can see your point though (as a middle aged person) that we don't bounce well as we get more mature! However if I were in your shoes I would give it a go!

I hope to continue riding for many more years but just beginning to accept my capabilities. I have three others to keep as well so its been a tough winter. I did think of loaning her out but I have loaned two of my others out before and they came back in awful state, plus 4 is too many for me. It will be harder still next year, I have a 28year old 13.2 who I may have to have put down before next winter as well. Its all just getting too much for me. Riding is one thing...caring for them all in the winter another, can't do them justice.

Come .. walk in my shoes for a week !!! I have a disabled bedridden partner too ... in fact please come and walk in my shoes for a week ...I could do with a break!!

Seriously it is not a descision I have taken easily.
 
Having read all your replies I can see where you are coming from - what a shame, but you need to be good to yourself to. I'm sure you will find her a great home, she sounds lovely.
 
Completely understand, luckily my daughter does the riding now but even doing the stable work and working full time is hard when you get older. Hope you find a lovely home
 
You have to do what is right for you and the horse and if that is what you have decided is best, then I am sure you will find a lovely home for her.
Just for those (of us!) who are knocking on a bit, I would just like to mention one of my oldest friends, the lady I bought my first horse from...
She was born on the same day as our Queen (21 April 1926)and shares the same name. She still maintains her property, garden, paddocks and stables. She still rides and drives her Highland pony! She has always been the person I turn to with any horsey problems and is a true inspiration to me.
Sorry, didn't mean to hijack your post Fuffy, just wanted you to know that you are still a spring chicken!
 
Thanks all for your thoughts and commiserations. It has not been an easy choice to make but now I have I hope someone turns up for her fairly soon before I chicken out!
