Comfort bridles with non-traditional throat lash...

One of my bridles doesn't have a throat lash at all. Looks far smarter. I don't jump though. Maybe you would prefer a throat lash if you jumped? Im not keen on the one you've shown tbh.

That's an interesting point - what is the function of a throat lash.... they're not fastened tightly enough to actually do much. At least the one in the picture looks like it would hold the cheek pieces back from the eyes, but the bit shouldn't push them that way anyway....

We had horse bit fit out to the yard. The consultant recommended these bridles. I tried to order one and was told that Brown was out of stock and would be about 6 weeks. A freind also tried to be told the black was out of stock. I gave up and bought a Stubben Leitrim.

The throat lash helps stop the bridle coming off if you happen to dismount over the horse’s ears. The one in the photo just looks like it would be more of an annoyance for the horse, esp. if it were on something with a beard.

i use comfort bridles with padding over the poll and around the nose band and a little more shaping around the ears too.. happy with them. i like the horze comfort bridle and the ones in the weatherbetta/bates catalogues.

Not a fan of the one you've linked at all, looks like a total afterthought.

A lot are making without now (eg PSoS) with an optional one if you need one, personally I don't have an issue with the traditional style.

How did you find the service? I'm interested in trialling a bridle but they want to come out to fit said bridle at a cost of £55. The bridle is £95. I'm after a really shaped headpiece which I haven't got with my comfort headpiece.

Well I would alway ride my Welsh D with a throat lash, especially if i was riding with ear covers. My clever mare has the magic ability of slipping out of her bridle. One quick shake and wiggle of her ears and its off. I find i cant use ear covers at all and there is no way i would take her out for a ride with out a correctly fitted throat lash.

The link doesn’t work for me. Is it a Horsemanship Saddlery bridle? I have one and it’s gorgeous. I do wonder about the throat latch though, doesn’t really do anything but look pretty.

The headpiece is not padded, it is shaped to be well back from the base of the ears. Padding can increase poll pressure.
