I've finally measured Pipsqueak properly and he's .......

14.1 and a half. Sob :( A big 14.1 and a half (the half's very important!) mind you as he has no withers at all, but still 14.1 and a half.

Piper is meant to make 15hh and I'd have been happy with that. But at nearly 4yrs old now it's looking unlikely :(

I'm tall at 5'8 with long legs and I hate the feeling of the horse being smaller than me. I happiest on something 16-17hh.

Has anyone else tall had a small horse unintentionally and eventually come to terms with it? Did you get over it or did it bother you for ages? I KNOW he'll carry me just fine (he's a cob after all and I'd not heavy) I just also know that's I'm going to be constantly thinking about how little he is.

It's made more difficult by the fact I also currently have a 15.2hh on loan whom I also adore. I need to choose which one to keep (sell the loan horse for his owner, or sell Pips and buy the loan horse myself) or sell both and start again. If it was a battle of pure personality Piper would narrowly win it (he's got such an easy, laid-back temerpament compared to Mr Drama Queen) but the size difference is putting a spanner in the works.

It seems like such a silly thing but it's been bugging me for ages. I adore my sweet, gentle, quiet, funny little boy (and my silly, affectionate, willing, gentle Drama Queen too) but I'm just not sure if he's going to be big enough!

Alternatively I get rid of them both and buy a new car.........

My estimated adult height 15.1hh gelding stopped growing at 3 years! At 14.2hh AND A HALF! (yes, the half is vital!) .. I decided to bring him on properly and sell him as he's too small for me. Then he excelled at everything I ever asked of him and I realised as he muscled up that size wasn't everything. So he's staying :)
... I do have a few others though, all well over 15.2hh, so the weird thing is that my main competition horse is the midget! He had to work twice as hard.

I have an unintentionally small horse, although i have come to terms with it unfortunately it will more than likely mean i will have to sell my little girl :( as she is not tall or broad enough for my parents to ride :(. We bought her at 18mnths at about 15.3hh and she is now rising 4 and about 16hh maybe 16.1hh its been a little while since she was last measured. May not be little to some others but my dad needs a 17hh with more bone than she has, kinder knew from the beginning she wouldn't be suitable but she was just to beautiful to resist :o. But with me hopefully going off to uni this year, it will most likely mean she has to go as there is no point in her wasting all her potential by sitting in a field for all the months im not there :(

Mine's coming up to 5 and she has grown loads in the last year, dont give up on him just yet!! :D Im worried mine is going to grow too big, I was hoping she'd top out at 16hands, but she looks like she is above that now and still growing!

Meg was meant to be at least 15.2hh, (Sire 16.1hh, Dam 15.1hh) but didn't make it! Although only at 14.3hh and a half (again - still important) she is my horse of a life time, and nothing will change that. She has been a major part of my life for 10 years, and she is going nowhere.

I know the feeling. My youngster was meant to make a full up 14.2/14.3, however at four and a half he's 14.1 and a half. Again I am tall, 5ft7. To begin with I was abit upset, however my aim has been to event him, and he only needed to be 14.1 for that. Now I accept the fact he's not going to get much bigger, although with correct muscling etc he may grow a titch more. However he may surprise me and carry on growing as some horses are late maturers :).

Now I've accepted he's only going to be small, I love it. I love having a fun pony to mess about on, aswell as do some dressage and soon to event :). He's a welsh btw :).

yes my old horse i bought him as a two yr old (14.2) and was to make approx 15.2
but when he was 5 he was 14.3 and a little bit (not even a half) he just stopped growing :confused::confused:

im not the smallest in weight so i was hoping for a little bit more.(although ha was quite chunky i too like them at least 15.2-16.2)

but i broke him in etc an kept him till he was 6and a half and then sold him to a wonderful girl (who still has him) she was short and petite and wanted a dope on a rope , which he deffo was lol

now i have a appie filly and atm she is about 14.3/15hh and is 19 months old so i am keeping everything crossed that she gets to at least 15.3 whaich i am sure she will

I bought Casper at 3 1/2, he was about 14.2. He's now 7 and is probably nearer 15h although not measured him as I'm not fussed.

He's wide enough to take up my leg and I don't think I look big on him (I'm 5'8 with long legs)

It's never caused us a problem so I don't worry about it.

Try not to worry about it, ignore what you see now and wait until he's 6, you may feel much differently then, if he creeps up slowly and of course fills out those corners as he matures, you could have nothing to be concerned about.
