Anyone know of any save me ringing them all?

I use SEIB for my 7yr old but they only cover accident/injury not sickness for veterans. I'm fairly sure Petplan are the same.

Is sickness worth insuring at this age (20)?

Thanks :)

Hi, you;ll find if you are after new insurance for a 20 year old you wont get vet cover for illness, only for accidental external injury. Petplan do a full cover veteran plan but to get this you need to be insured with them before 16 or 17 I think, certainly younger than 20.

My 33 is covered for accidental exteral, it costs me £10 a month so I just carry on with it. I wouldnt pay more. At his age if something serious happened he would be PTS, and if not serious Id pay myself.
Your best bet is to probably set up a savings account to cover any problems.

Thanks that what i thought might be the case. SEIB have quoted £196 for the year with £135 excess and £3000 vet fees. May have a look at Pet Plan then to see if i can find it cheaper.

Have you tried KBIS they do illness Vets cover for oldies but I think it is percentage based ie you pay 1st 20% rather than an excess only.

try shearwater too. I insure my lorry through them and out of interest got a quote for my young horse and it was VERY competitive

.

Petplan will ensure for full vet cover for illness up to the age of 25 providing you take out the insurance before their 20th birthday. Most other companies will only cover for external injury. Unfortunately OP has still 'missed the boat' with her 20 year old.
