If you took on a companion pony on loan would you expect to pay the insurance or should the owner pay?

Hi, I pay for the insurance for both of my companions. Yes, I have two (don't ask!) 
Right! Last companion pony I had the owner paid the insurance, thought this would be the case as pone is being looked after at my cost etc. .
