I had to have my donkey PTS this morning due to liver failure. It has been a huge shock as he was only 13 and he went downhill in 48 hrs. My horse seems oblivious at the moment but I'm obviously going to keep an eye on him. Anyway I'm just putting feelers out to see if anyone knows of a horse or donkey that needs a new home. Thanks in advance.
 
Depending on where in cornwall you are , Bolenowe animal sanctuary do an adoption scheme , i have a shet from them as a companion , works really well , plus if anything did happen to me they would have her back.
 
There are loads off companions about, you shouldn't have a problem finding one you really shouldn't. Do u want another donkey? If so what about the donkey santuary? Most rescue centers are full to the brim so to make them 1 less would be a job well done
 
There are plenty of places locally that will loan out rescue/companions, there is also the mare and foal sanctuary in newton abbot. Although you could go to exeter horse sales and pick up a little one for pennies - probably less than the cost of a contribution to a rescue centre.
 
The donkey sanctuary won't rehome to you as you have a horse. It's one of their rules. But there should be plenty of horse rescue places to look at, they're all bursting at the seams!
 
Cant offer any help but I am really sorry about your donkey. We lost a mare on Mondy, she was only 7, she went from being a little subdued at tea time sunday to being put to sleep at %am on Monday morning. Loosing any animal is a shock but when it is sudded and untimely its so much worse. Hugs to you((()))

I'm so sorry to hear that, it's so awful when we lose them at a young age.

Thanks everyone else for your replies. The Donkey Sanctuary is a no no I'm afraid because I have a horse. I am going to trawl around the local sanctuaries including Bolenowe (thanks Paddy), I was just wondering if anyone knew an animal that needed rehoming off the top of their head.

Cop Pop the distance wouldn't worry me but I'm not experienced enough to bring an older pony back into work. I hope you find a good home for her very soon.
 
I know of two jennies for sale in the Camborne/Redruth area, if that is anywhere near you. They are working donkeys so are not cheap, but I suspect the owner will consider long term loan.
 
Why doesn't the donkey sanctuary rehome donkeys to people who have a horse??? i am confused! Do they doney sanctuary actually want to rehome ANY of their donkeys? They seem to have ridiculously stringent criteria. Our blue cross horse came to us with his best buddy who was a donkey - they were inseperable and the other horses loved the donkey, he was treated like royalty. I really don't get the logic behind not rehoming them as companions to people with horses - can anyone explain?

Our donkeys are already bonded so don't need another equine friend and will also get upset if the horse goes out riding without them! Please house your horse or pony separately although they could say hi over the fence!

But couldn't they rehome 2 donkeys to someone with a horse??
 
There were donkeys fir sale St Hallworthy Market at the autumn horse sales, they have the winter horse sales coming up, just look on the Kivells website for catalogue details.
