Someone i know has got a 16.2hh ID x TB and just found out over FB that he cannot be ridden anymore. She is trying to find somewhere to keep him but on a limited student budget it is very hard especially as she is london. How easy would it be to find him a long term loan home as a companion? Do people really want companions this big? He is a very kind a gentle horse, but will his size put people off?

Tbh,its highly unlikely in this present climate. He's not like a little old native that can live out 24/7 and is cheap as chips to keep. Unfortunately that size take work, extra feed, careful rugging, stabling etc.

Yes, I'm afraid his size is likely to put people off. :( I am just considering/looking into getting a companion for one of mine, and I wouldn't want anything that big. Incidentally, I also wouldn't want anything too small as they are a pain to manage with regards to fencing.

I got meself a companion 2 years ago. 12.2hh little riding pony mare. Lives out (unless I feel sorry for her),barefoot,no hardfeed, loves a fuss and doesn't mind being left on her own. Perfect!

He is a hardy type, would live out all year quite happilly and all his rugs ect would obviously come with him.
I have the same fears that people wont want a companion as big as him...poor guy.

I have to admit that if I needed a companion and had the funds for one I would not want a horse of this size, I would be looking for pony size, 14.2h and under, and I think that alot of the time it is harder to find a companion home for such a large horse :(

He may be able to ridden eventually, He had a tendon injury about 9 months ago and is perfectly happy and sound in the field but becomes lame again when ridden. Its a shame because he is a very talented horse. To be honest im not quite sure of the situation i was just trying to see if anyone would take a big horse like him as a companion, but i understand it is not the ideal situation..as you say a bigger horse takes extra space in the field extra feed ect.

I might be interested, how old is he please, does he need shoes and is he kind in the field with other horses? thanks
