Hi everyone, I'm currently going through the process of buying my first horse and I'm leaning towards something smaller (14.2) I'm trying to figure out the BS and BE rules on competing ponies as I will be too old for pony rider classes after this year. As i understand it, for eventing 90+ the horse has to be 14'2+ which isn't a problem (please correct me if I'm wrong!), however, I'm trying to figure out if i could compete a 14'2 in BS horse classes with being over 16, hope this makes sense! any help would be greatly appreciated as i've been trying to figure it out for days! thank you 😊

When I wanted to jump my 14h pony BS I wasn't allowed to enter horse classes, I got a junior rider to jump him. I jumped him in unaffiliated.
Don't know about BE.
However if you got a registered native you could do working hunter and any breed classes the society put on.

Ahhh thank you!

BE you can compete a pony as a senior rider, but you wouldn't be able to take part in 'pony trials' (as these are for 16 and under riders).
BS you need to register them as a horse, then it's a bit of a faff to get them re-registered as a pony if you were to sell to a junior rider, but it is all doable.
BD and riding club you can also all do on a pony as a senior at all levels!

The only issue with ponies competing in senior classes MAY come with distances in combinations and widths in a spread. Up to about 1.10 a really good pony won’t be at a disadvantage but bigger than that may be a problem.

Thank you, thats helped so much!
