So my boy seems to be doing well finally with his soundness so we're to do a little dressage test (low level ) . Yay !

Only thing is , I'm not sure what to wear etc !

I have a GP/jump saddle , brown,.and with it I use a brown wool backed numnah - presumably that's OK? The saddle is fitted with that and they cost nearly £150 so not keen on buying a white one just for the sake of it. (My boy is white too BTW!)

I've got a herringbone tweed jacket and beige breeches. Was going to get just a basic competition shirt to go with it - do I need a tie or a stock ?

And number holders- do I need one to go on either side of the bridle or is one sufficient?

Thank you kindly , this is out of my comfort zone as not done this before but weirdly looking forward to it !

Everything sounds fine. I prefer to wear a tie with a tweed jacket but people also wear stocks. You must wear gloves but colour doesn’t matter.

under BD rules you must have a number either side of the horse and I have mine on my saddle cloth but on the bridle is fine. I have seen some-one who had a bridle number on one side and on the saddle cloth on the other side.

All of what you describe above is acceptable. I don’t use a white numnah, mine is a beige colour. I think Tweed can be worn with tie or coloured stock - I’ve used both. In fact I didn’t wear either as long as it’s one you can button right up. You would need the right shirt to go with either tie or stick. Get a shirt with short sleeves rather than none then you can wear it if it’s hot and jackets off is permitted. Gloves can be dark I wear brown or black.

If the venue is following BD rules then it’s a number either side on bridle or saddle pad.

My tack is brown and my saddle a GP

Thanks everyone.
Went to tack shop and forgot the number holders ??‍♀️

My cob has a long-ish mane , not quite down to the bottom of shoulder, I'd say it's about 8-10 inches. He's got full feather too.
Do I need to try and plait him somehow?

You don’t have to plait these days especially unaffiliated there are plenty of natives that don’t however a very long mane obscures the line of the neck and is not very neat so you might want to think about something just to tidy it a bit. One of those running plaits or something similar (loads of stuff on Google). It doesn’t have to look good close up just neat from a distance. I’ve seen people do various things but I wouldn’t get hung up about it as there are more important things to do to prepare for your competition.
