Mine and Charlie's first ever comp
Prelim 13 at a local riding centre.
In the warm up he was, um interesting. He was rushing a lot and kept breaking into canter. But he really hates indoors so it was understandable really.
Got into the outdoor ring and I bet he hadn't even done three steps before he spun 180 and leapt at the gate. Pulled him round straight away and started sending him on, getting a little further each time but each ending in him spinning and galloping to the gate. Finally got him to walk around the arena and entered at C. Popped him up into trot and he basicly flipped his lid and galloped back at the gate, eliminated. Just glad I didn't fall off really, my Mum's heart was in her mouth apparently. I thought I was going off the side door at least ten times.
The organisers said I could school him in that arena afterwards, so I popped him back into the indoor to keep him moving and he was really settling tbh. He felt great until we were back in the outdoor. Tried the gate thing again but with less gusto and he soon gave that up really... he walked calmly round twice and the judge said if he could do the test she'd mark my sheet but obviously I was out of the running for a rosette. Entered at C, doing a lovely working trot and it all fell to bits when I asked for a turn. He flipped it and bolted for the gate so I was eliminated... again. He did settle in it afterwards, think it was the judge he didn't like...
Going to hire the arena to have a lesson in next weekend and I'm very pleased that my new tip for staying on is working!! (keep your shoulders behind your knees and it's near impossible to fall forwards)
Just a few pictures to show that even though he behaved like a right pig he doesn't look like one!
Striding to the arena!
Just about to go in
With me and my Dad
I just think this is cute
