I am trying to be organised this year  and I am making a competition calender for my bog monster (hairy muddy four legged thing). Anyone know any competitions in the North west and in cumbria. I have been on greenlands, Blackdyke and Newton Rigg websites and have got dates off them but can anyone think of anywwhere else??

Also, and more importantly can anyone suggest places to cross country school in the North, early in the year? I want at least 3 cross country schooling sessions before April, but I can't think of anywhere which isn't too wet. Any suggestions, and I accept that I will have to travel :( suggestions welcome.

Not much xc schooling round here is open that early! I went to Craigbeck farm in march last year & that was very dry, its near Moffat which was about 45 from north Carlisle in a wagon. Other than that nord vue, cumwhinton etc.... i know cumwhinton are doing some BS club shows in April & unaffiliated SJ - they have a facebook page too (murray house livery).

Realistically you won't find anywhere decent open early in Cumbria (or ever again if the current weather continues :p)!!

I have always doen an event camp in March as our warm up. Active Rider ran one at Kelsall Hill and it is now running at Somerford Park
It's not bad value for all you get done - it is a busy 3 days. I can't make it this year though as it clashes with and EHOA clinic I am doing.

Somerford is definitely worth a trip. I am debating maybe seeing if I could fit in a trip down before end of March and maybe stay over and do 2 days.

Other than that your best bet is Foxberry Chasers over near Scotch Corner.

if any of you do fancy a trip down to somerford let me know and if i'm free i'll come over for a play XC schooling too :)

Agree with DHB, think you may struggle for Cumbria, esp if it carries on like it is doing at the mo

Also agree, you can't beat Somerford for a day out on their XC practise, I'd be interested if anyone planned a trip too ;)

Ones to look out for, Delamere Forest Riding Club normally hold a XC comp in the middle of March at Kelsall which is always a good one, not on their website yet so keep checking as it always get filled early, it usually goes up to PN

Eleanor Mercer Equestrian normally have a Hunter Trial in April which again is quite good, not sure how far that would be for you, but it's in the Thornton Watlass/Richmond area if that helps :)

The only other one which is available to hire all year round that I can think of is Helen Bell's, but again it's Thirsk, so may be the wrong side of the country

Hope that helps :)

Thanks Mrs Pink, and another in need of a sommerford trip too :)

I think I was right, there will be no where in Cumbria :( and Julie's is very wet.
Somerford or Thirsk etc seems most likely, and if anyone else wants to come they will be most welcome :)
