Ok would anyone like to come to mongolia with me for two weeks next for an adventure? It's something I will happily do on my own (travelled on my own for 6 years) but I think that it's an experience that needs to be shared and my OH has without surprise said that he has no desire to spend 2 weeks on horseback with me in the middle of nowhere :) I don't hold this against him he is south east London boy through and through! So thought I would put the thought out there and hope maybe someone is as mad as me :) I want to go because of the link with horses the fact it's beautiful and something you only get to do once in your life plus it's something that will fuel my photography passion as well. So any takers?

What a super idea having a post like this.

I would love to go - but sadly self employed and too many animals for two weeks away.

However, if anyone ever fancies a long weekend at the likes of Badminton etc feel free to give me a shout:D

My brother's girlfriend taught in China for a year and rode in Mongolia. She said it was amazing!

I would definitely be interested to know what you're doing OP

Oh my i wish but what great idea on here to get people geting together for likes of say badminton. my daughter and i went every year but she now lives in aussie so mmmmm :)

wow OP that is a great idea to post about! i am almost tempted... but would be terrified of squashing mongolian ponies so will stick to my own for now. Let us know how you get on finding a travel companion... and then we can all help you plan !!! :)

On a positive note :D

I met Ballyshan on here, then we met up one year at Dublin show and we have now done that for the last 3/4 years and had a great time.

Ok so my plan was a 14day trek and finding a good tour company that offers slightly off the beaten track and where a full culture experience can be had!
The country is huge and filled with natural beauty and wild horses so I think anywhere you go would be amazing apart from the capitol ulaanbaarter which is an experience but apparently a bit of a dump we would fly into there and you can get flights for around 600-700 return from gatwick!
I have been looking at tour companies and there are plenty around I guess its just a guess of sifting through the super touristy ones to ones that are more authentic.
I would love to spend 14 days riding across beautiful and challenging terrain and camping in the middle of nowhere :) plus learning about this cultures love of horses and their history.
I have found these tour companies

I particularly like the last one as its run by a mongolian family.
also some photos :)

My ultimate dream would be to visit the taiga forest (largest in the world) on the border of mongolia and siberia but a almost far fetched idea :)

I don't think it would be particularly cheap probably somewhere around £1500-2000 total hence why I want to plan now for August next year so I can save. Its a once in a life time thing so I really don't want to cut corners :) on the plus side you wont need a huge amount of spending money as a lot of the trekking companies provide food, internal flights, camping equipment, vehicle support, visas etc and its not like you can pop to the local nightclub or shopping place haha

I think that would be the best way to do it! especially having vehicle support and local knowledge! its a very big place to get lost in haha.
I am going to start saving now with the plan to book at the beginning of next year. Would love to go on a HHO excursion and share this with likeminded people :)

Well other posts above have a general outline of a plan and a budget from what I have researched so far. I think if its something people would genuinely love to do then everyone should have an input on trekking companies etc as its everyones adventure :)
There is 14months between now and next august and I can save £100pm (I can get in a little extra here and there) with the plan to book flights in january next year and then to choose and book the trekking company.

Stuff details...I have wanted to do this for years but never had anyone to do it with. My sister would but she the kind of sister that can text me how disappointed she is that the anniversary card I sent her was late without asking how My broken pelvis and back are...so a couple of weeks with her are a no no, lol.

I LOVE camping, am tough as old boots and happy to completely immerse myself in another culture, so love the idea of a truly authentic, family run, off the beaten track holiday.

Please just keep me informed, budget not an issue...this would be a dream come true :D

YES! I love how this is evolving!!!! Ok so I am going to set up a FB group and maybe ask for this to be made a sticky.

I am thinking book flights in January and then choose the trekking company. This gives people plenty of time to decide if they want to come and save etc. Then once flights are booked we can arrange a meet for everyone who is coming or even before.

I am going! Alone or with other people who want to have a proper adventure :)
