We can only afford to ride once a week, alternate hack/lesson (until we buy cobs!) and you do find that you forget things during the week.

I recon you should have as many lessons as pos, as hunting is NOT easy, and you really need experience. There are excercises you can do to improve your posture, I'm sure you could find some on the web

Welcome to the forum!

I would get as much experience as you can, on different horses too so you get used to their different ways and how they ride.

Also do different things, hack aswell as lesson schooling as this will all prepare you for hunting, and prepare you for bears jumping out of bushes and the horse jumping 6 feet in the air!

Hello and welcome,

ride as much as you can, and helping around the yard will be beneficial, are you planning to own a horse in the future??

Hello and welcome!
Have as many lessons/hacks as you can afford, half the trouble with learning to ride is the necessary muscles are weak which leads to leg flapping and so on. If you can do it 3/4 times a week go for it!
As people have said different horses helps your experience, and keep us informed when you are gonig hunting for the first time! Lucky you in Chehsire, spoilt for choice!!

welcome and dont be put off by a rather fierce thread ongoing at teh moment if you read it, most of us are friendly and dont bite at all!

Welcome, the exercise you need are for core strength and start really slowly and build up and you will really be amazed at the change in your riding posture, you can do them all in your own living room but try every day for 5 minutes only at first

Welcome and good for you for starting a new sport (expensive and adictive!), I started to ride at the age of 36 years and have not looked back (have been face down in the menage more times than I can remember, but not looked back!)
Ride as many different horses as poss, definately help out at the yard, may get a free lesson!?!?, and ride as often as you can.

Thankyou for a warm welcome.

I will own a horse in the future and when the time comes thats whats so great I can ask you lot what the pro's and con's are.

Ok whats the exercises I need to do to improve my posture.
