I buy small bales of haylage from Mole Valley for my horse. The first 20 bales I bought this winter were proper ryegrass haylage and the horse loved them.

I have just bought another 15 and they are completely different - far more like hay, far drier and seedy. The horse won't eat it which isn't ideal. What worries me is that the 15 bales all came off the same pallet so are no doubt going to be the same.

I was expecting the same haylage as the last lot of bales I bought - all from the same company who supply Mole Valley. What do I do?!! I can't open every single bale to see if they are the same but def. don't want this kind. I want what I bought the first time round!!

Echo the above. Sounds like Mole Valley have more than one 'supplier of haylage' from what you're describing in the difference between your last 20 and this recent 15 purchased. That and the fact it could be either 2nd or 3rd cut you've got and you initially bought 1st cut.

I'd take it back and have a natter with them and explain your findings and see If they have got any other haylage you can have a look at to make a swap..

It's probably second cut haylage, ours has been the same. Quite dry and not as sweet smelling as usual, and the horses aren't as keen on it. Get them to take it back and ask if they have any first cut.

Is it the Devon haylege you've been getting or just plain green bales? I used to get the plain ones and then I had so many that we're bad like that I gave up and new get Devon or Fosseway.
