I'm lookin for an empty mash basically just to give my horse a dinner with the others at the yard. He doesn't need any type of calories and the last thing he needs is anything that will give him energy or make him hotter. I've googled endlessly and can't seem to find what I'm looking for. If it's not sugars it's full of oils 😅

Another vote for speedi beet as you only need a very small amount to make a decent feed, or Spillers senior mash if he's getting on a bit. Coblet has that for his bute and wolfs it down as it has a lovely appley aroma!

I’ve recently put my older boy onto Fast Fibre, which genuinely does soak up the water in about a minute. I then mix in his happy hoof and he really enjoys it. He’s a good doer but needed a softer feed due to a tooth fracture for a bit and it suits him very well.

I’ve used speedibeet in the past and he loved that too. It took a bit longer to soak so I’d soak a couple of feeds’ amounts at a time, but then it would go mouldy quickly in the warm weather.

Allen & Page Fast Fibre. My horse went off it a bit, he says it’s a bit ‘meh’.
Simple Systems Haycare pellets are made of Timothy so not madly calorific and seem very tasty.

My fatty ponies had fast fibre but recently won’t touch it. I was recommended Baileys soft and lite it is a senior feed though.
I got a sample bag and they scoffed it up.

I had the same dilemma and put my very hot and sharp horse on Fast Fibre a few months ago - I needed something with more 'bulk' as he gets a joint supplement that seems to be an inordinate amount of powder and he was turning his nose up at low calorie chaff. It hasn't had any adverse effects on his behaviour and I'm pleased to say he also hasn't gained any weight. 🤞
