Today I went to view a horse.
It was a coloured gelding, 6years old, and I wanted something capable of going to county level in the coloured classes with me.
I clearly stated this when I called up about said horse, stressed it must be blemish and lump free and have solid colouring.
All of the pictures on her add were taken on one side, so I requested a picture of the other side, just to see how he was marked. She sent me a rubbish quality one which was taken from a distance, but from there I could see it had decent markings.
I travelled a fair distance today to see said horse, to find out it had a wall eye.
In my opinion, the woman had purposely hidden this from me, as she hadn't shown me a picture in which the eye was displayed, and when I asked if it had any defects/blemishes etc she said no.
I'm not sure if a wall eye IS a defect (honestly not trying to offend) but I don't like them, and I honestly do think they get marked down in the ring.
I'm absolutely gutted because it was quite a nice horse, but mostly because I wasted a day going to look at something I didn't even sit on, what a rubbish result.

Agh what a pain! Sounds like such a waste of your time. I can't stand untruthful sellers, although I suppose it depends on whether she considered a wall eye to be a defect!

At least you know for next time to ask about wall eyes! Good luck.

Friend of mine came 4th at the Royal Highland in the ridden coloured class on a horse with a wall eye, wouldnt say they were marked down in the ring at all!
If you dont like wall eyes fair enough but its not considered a defect or blemish and unless you specified you didnt want one with a wall eye the seller was not withholding anything. As HorseSpirit says, ask about wall eyes in advance next time if you dont like them.

From the sounds of it she may have specifically tried to cover up the wall eye with all the pics taken on one side. Wall eyes don't seem to get marked down in the show-ring but they are a bit of a marmite thing so she should have been more honest.

I hope you find what you are looking for!

Well as with showing beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but after two decades showing horses, and a decade judging them, in my experience they were never flavour of the month.
In my opinion, the wall eye was deliberately hidden, which angered me.

I am sorry your journey was wasted I know the feeling I am always suspicious of bad photos.
Then you have the no photos ads and you phone up and they describe a stunningly beautiful horse and you get there to find weedy poor looking nag weaving to its hearts content and when brought out of the stable it has the wierdest oval shaped feet you have ever seen in your life and they want tons of dosh because they paid a lot when it was a foal!!

It may be that the seller didn't consider the eye to be a blemish as such, though not appealing to all, hence the photo.

Does the seller show? Would it be a known issue? I ask because I know nothing about showing

Really? Want something 16hh+ non traditional, LW/MW. Need something that is nicely marked, I prefer them darker, but anything worthy of county TBH. PM me if you think you have something that might suit?

The wall eye is probably just due to the sabino gene, whoch a lot of coloureds carry and shouldnt impact its chances in the ring.

But some people dont like them, hence why you didnt get a decent photo of that side, as she probably knew it would/might put you off

I have a cracking colt that would easily make a county standard show horse, but he's a yearling so possibly a little younger than you wanted!
