You don't need to justify anything to anyone about what you or your horse does, everyone needs to experiment at times with new bits and different ways of riding etc its how we improve our horses.

Perhaps this person knows you are a quiet and soft person (mean that in a nice way) and therefore saying these things to make themselves feel like they know everything.

Next time just carrying on riding and say ''sorry I can't hear you''....they will get the hint.

I did that once and the person cut H's mouth trying to "saw" her into a contact ! I was mortified !
