A complete folder of documents has disappeared from my computer. It is a touchscreen and think the flies have been busy!!

Is there any way in which the folder can be retrieved from the hard drive in the same way as Forensics do when the seize someone's computer to look for "iffy" material.

What I have lost is of vital importance - and no - no back up done in past few day. I am in serious bother!!

Thank you hunt-on but the file has gone that's why I need to know about someone delving into the hard-drive. Roll on CSI Miami!!

oh right, have you tried to google it, there maybe some software you could download off the internet to recover it? Sorry im not anymore help. good luck tho!

Yes it is possible to retrieve the file in most cases.
You will need some appropriate software.
Be very careful when using PC until retrieved as when a file is deleted it simply removes the address element on the HD which then makes the disk segments used by the file available for use.
If the pc decides to use the segments of the original file when saving new files then retrieval of the original file in part or whole will not be possible.

My in depth knowledge is not great but, if you have not done anything important on the computer since, could you not do that thing where you reset the computer to an earlier date/time? I have no idea if that would work but I am sure the more computery people on here would know.

Wouldn't help in this case as 'system restore' only affects the operating system and programs, not user created data.

and being an I.T. Manager at work I think I can justify replying to it
