Concerned...what are these?

Archie has recently developed what I can only describe as these wart type things on his nose, lip and now one by his eye. The one by his lip seems to be getting slightly bigger now. He is only 10 months but I have no idea what they are and I'm a little concerned. A very experienced friend is going to take a look at him this afternoon for me. Has anyone experienced anything similar??

Lots of youngsters get these our vet calls them "milk warts" they eventually dropped of, a yearling TB filly I looked after had them all over her nose u the side of her face and around her eyes, looked gross but had all gone by the time she was 3, just ruined her for showing,
 
One of the youngsters at our yard had them, they looked awful, some got quite sore and bleeding etc, they were all over his face, muzzle etc

The vet said they were milk warts and the horse would grow out of it in time
 

From my experience these are pretty common and I have not actually seen any long term effects. As zigzag says they are often called milk warts and are harmless and drop off after a while.

If you are overly concerned you could get a vet to look at them (or perhaps give them a shout over the phone if they offer this service). But I would not be too worried.
 
zig zag is right they are warts my mare had them at 6mths old and they dropped off around a year old

. Is there anything I can give him for them? Dam I really wanted to show him too! I'm just worrying myself it's serious or something!
 
i dont think there much you can do i dont know if you can get them freezed off ? i let them drop off natural but they are nothing to worry about
 
I think they are caused by the papilloma virus & as everyone says they will go away on their own - usually after a few months. When my youngster had them the vet said that they are contagious to another horse that has not had them before so if he is turned out with other youngsters then they will quite likely get them too. There are probably loads of things you can try to get rid of them but most people just leave them until they go.
 
Yes I really don't want to start playing around with them or agrivating them either. Thanks, I feel slightly better about them now!

If they are warts caused by the papilloma virus, then your vet should be able to advise whether or not it's a good idea to use human wart treatment (obviously not near the lips or upper eye lid). I used to get warts all the time as a kid and grew out of it. I imagine it's a similar kind of thing.
 
Years ago when I worked in a racing yard we had a yearling come in to be broken. His muzzle was covered in these warts. I seem to remember we rubbed/dabbed in castor oil regulary and they soon dropped off!!. It was really messy, greasy stuff.
 
One of mine had these and the vet said either leave alone or rub in some vaseline. they disappeared fairly quickly.(I left them alone)
