Has anyone done one a "Concours d'Elegance" class before?

Its replacing the usual tack and turnout class at a local show next week..... it just says its marked on overall horse / rider appearance...

Any ideas what the dress code is? Or what the judges would be looking for in particular?

I'm doing a show hunter class, so, will be turned out for that already.... but it seems silly to go just for one class, so....

Any help appreciated!!

We have that at our show. Its an equestrian life qualifier. Someone rang me and asked me about it. I was hopeing entrants would know

At our show it states costume or traditional dress i think - ran out of schedules. People can ride side saddle or astride. A very posh show class i think

Seriously?!!

Ok.... I have 1 week to break my horse and learn to ride side saddle... and find myself a massive frock!! Hahaaaa!

Perhaps a little optemistic!

It doesnt say anything about riding side saddle, just says "top hat and tails may be worn at the riders own risk" open to any age, lead rein etc too!?

Bearing in mind my usual fancy dress efforts involve a bin sack and never cost more than a fiver, I'm beginning to have second thoughts....

Don't worry we could always make your frock out of easibed sacks - I'm sure L won't mind them flapping about in the wind.

being serious just go "posh" in your normal showing gear.

Field has been/is being cut if noone told you.

PS - you must know who i am now

Posh 'normal' showing gear I would think is evening wear - navy jacket, silk stock, top hat and hunting whip.

Good luck!

Normally these are traditional dress classes, Adaulsians (sp) in spanish dress.
Or Side saddle classes.

Bit unusual to have it at a local show?

If I had a dress made of easibed sacks, Louie would proabably be going so fast, the judge wouldnt be able to tell how good / bad we looked... perhaps a good back up plan if "poshing it up" doesnt work out!!?

I do have a silk stock though and a black and silver pinstripe showjacket.... so all is not lost!

Thanks everyone!

I have done it driving and they usually get an artist to judge it.

They should be looking at the overall picture of horse and rider, I suppose which one they would most like a painting or picture of.

Good luck

I am under the impression that this class is usually side saddle in traditional dress. With outfits in replica dress ie copies of original outfits. My mum made a few replica outfits for this sort of class. You may be comteing against someone riding sideways ina replica 1850's outfit!

Found it - Concours D'elegance - To be ridden astride or side saddle. Open to horses and ponies, mares and geldings, four years old and over. Riders any age. Costumes or traditional allowed. To be judged on the overall picture of elegance presented by horse/pony and rider including appearance, conformation and individual show.
Hope this is of some help
