Saw an interesting segment on “tech now” this morning about some new(?) helmet technology to reduce torsion and concussion in head impacts. It’s currently being developed for bike/mororbike/industrial helmets from what i can see (and likely to be quite expensive there for a while!), but I thought it was definitely an interesting concept - particularly for the higher speed/risk elements of our sport … I wonder if any horse riding helmet companies are looking into this already. I feel like our headgear options seem to exist behind the curve quite often 🙈 I’m sure MIPS was going a lot longer elsewhere before we got it?

god that's the most annoying website 🤣. There are other MIPS alternatives as manufacturers have their own proprietary options so they aren't paying to use mips

Motorbike tech is far beyond equestrian as bigger market. My vet events and has a big motorbike. He's always banging on about what he wears to ride his bike vs what's available to riders.
RLS does look interesting as a technology. Not sure how it differs from MIPS? Roll and release vs. Sliding. Is that same thing; different words?

Yes, we still runs big bikes and the tech is far higher.
Even 10 and 20 years ago the comparison between horse and bike helmets was vast. So much so that when one of my brothers wanted to brush up on his riding skills, he wore his bike lid in preference to an in date approved riding hat.

I guess mostly mips has a maximum point it can get to on impact, releasing means that isn't there any more.
