how much road work could cause concussion?? horse is just coming back into work after 6 months off due to laminitis, vet suggested school work 2-3 times a week and a short hack, we only have rd hacking, i was a bit worried as he does tend to jog a lot partically in the winter, so i thought seeing as he's only going in the field for an hour he might start jogging but went on our first walk out last night (and apart form a 4x4 with a trailer with bleating lambs in it!) he was very well behaved and no jogging, although this may be due to him being so unfit, he seemed so happy being out his face was lit up like a child in a candy store!! would it be to much to take him for a walk out say twice a week? would he only suffer concusion if he was doing loads of trotting?

Hiya
Hopefully twice a week for short periods of walking only will be fine, you really will have to play it by ear. I have a mare with pedal bone rotation, no trotting on roads/hard ground for us. My girl is currently comfortable walking on hard ground, i avoid as much as i can.
But yes you should be ok, with two short periods walking on hard ground, i would be pretty concerned if your horses wanted to jog however, so i think you will have to try your best to get him out of that habit if you can, good luck

cool thanx for that, he only really jogs in the winter when he's fully clipped and not going out much, i assumed he might jog b'cos he isnt going out much now, but maybe the warm weather and the unfittness helped!! (and not being bald!!) ill see how he goes and if he starts jogging about and being his silly self ill cut back!!
