Having an ex-polo I'm sure you can image he was quite fit and muscly when he came from the polo yard and onto ours. But now he's been with me for 4/5 months he has put weight on, as he doesn't get half as much exercise and probably has twice as much to eat! I know that he is not obese, but I want to ensure that he is not/ does not become overweight. I've heard of condition scoring but don't really know anything about it/how to do it.

Aero hot chocolate, squirty cream, marshmallows AND a flake! for anyone who can help :) xx

Hi Polopony,
I dont know a great deal myself but I bought a weigh tape from our local pet store and it came with a leaflet explaining about "condition scoring" would you believe it I cannot find the blimming thing! I do remember about looking at their bum!! as my boy is a lot overweight, it said if it was apple shaped looking from behind then that was too much Jack 's looks like a very rounded apple also things like looking at their ribs (can you see them?) and their necks, Jack has the biggest neck and it wobbles when you touch it underneath (too fat!) sorry cannot be more specific I'm sure if you googled it you would find it

thanks v.much guys, just been looking at photos of my boy next to the one on the website and I feel i may be being a tad paranoid! how do I upload a photo and I'll show you? xx

it works on a scale of one to five. 2.5 is healthy. 5 is obese and one is way to skinny

you look at certain points on the horse.
neck
bum
ribs
and back.

the neck should not be wobbly or to fatty or not etc.
the back should have a curve on it not be flat
the ribs should be easily felt but not showing to much
the bum should not be an apple or to trianguler.

score each area one to five and then average is the horses score.
it varys per horse tho as i can find my horses ribs but she is a 2 to 2.5

i hope that makes sence if it doesnt people ask more

I joined photobucket and upload my photos to there. The site supplies you with URl with img tags to use to upload to here. if you'd like more detailed instructions, PM me, and I'll send you them. :)
