Confession of a first time horse owner

I'm about to buy another horse :o

I'm bursting to tell people, but I want to keep it quiet in facebook as officially I'm skint!

I booked my first hack since Jack got kicked (still on box rest, still got a hole in his leg, but progressing - 11 weeks now) and they put me on one of the dealing horses - a flashy little 15.1hh show cob.

After warning me he was strong, I wasn't sure what to expect, but he was fabulous. Strong yes, but made me feel completely safe. And he's so very forward going, which I'm not used to with cobs.

So I hacked out again yesterday, and they put me on him again. When I got back, they mentioned he had someone viewing him today, and I knew then that I had to have him. So, subject to vetting, and barring a disaster when I ride him in the school on Thursday, I'll own two horses!

I was going to say, you are so lucky owning two but then I remembered... I've got two too!!:o:D
I got my pony first, for my daughter to potter about on, as I couldn't afford to buy a horse for myself. Then I got left some money when my Grandmother died, so I bought my first proper horse!!
As they say, horses are like chocolates, you can't have just one!!:D

I've told the yard not to put me on any more horses for sale, as so far I've bought both, and there's only so far the money will stretch!

Aye, smart looking lad, isn't he? :D

And I wasn't looking for another at all, and he's twice the budget I had for the first one, but what's the point of money if you don't spend it!

(for those concerned about my spending, as I've had comments in the past, once the paperwork is sorted, the only debt I will have is my mortgage - no loan, no credit cards, not even an overdraft :p)
 
I very much like him!! So whats his stats then? Do you know his breeding?

Oh and forget other people's comments, it's no-one's business what you do! More pics added to FB please and an update once the vet has been please :)

I know nothing about him, except he's a beautifully well mannered and easy-going fun ride. I guess I should find out really!

He may be a little bit 'wasted' with me, as he's won at county level before, and all I'll do on him is hacking and a bit of flatwork. But he'll be on working livery, same as Jack, so will regularly go hunting and do shows with the more experienced kids.

He's such a fabulous ride though that I couldn't resist, and he's very different from Jack - I think riding the two will really improve my riding. And whenever Jack bucks me off, I can get on Lumpy for a confidence boost, as he doesn't do acrobatics.
 
Well, buying him was dependent on two things - riding him in the school today (in a group lesson) and then a vetting next week. He passed the first with flying colours.

His green-ness became quite apparent, but in a way that's good as I can work on him and feel that I've done something with him, rather than just getting on a completely ready-made horse. He's still really forward going too - I was worried he may switch off in the school and be lazy. But still, that feeling of confidence never left. We went over a couple of tiny crosspoles at the end, and he took off early and jumped them huge, chucking me onto his neck, but still I was grinning and ready to canter round again - that's the sort of thing that would usually make me want to get off and cry!

So tomorrow I shall book the vetting, and I'll probably offer to buy him whatever the report says, just if there's anything really bad would maybe negotiate on price.

Although I've discovered the downside of two horses - got home at 10pm. I'd better get used to it!

Update!

Well, having ridden him in the school one week, I had a vetting booked that was postponed, but rode him in the indoor school for another lesson. In short, at the end he ran out of a jump and spooked, I flew off as he spun round, and broke my shoulder. As I couldn't justify buying a second horse when I can't ride for a few months, I let him go, and he's since been sold.

But the idea of having a second horse has been firmly planted...
