Tried this morning to see if it would help my pony with his farrier worry, unfortunately he did not like me applying it and reacted very strongly to the smell/sensation.

Has anyone else used it?

Oh dear, sorry to hear that. My horse didnt show the same reaction, and loaded first time (unusually for her ).
There was a discussion on this product a while ago, maybe worth searching?
The application instruction is quite precise.
