Hi all I need help looking in the right places for a confidence giver, I am looking to buy from a professional breaking/training yard for a school master/ riding club mare or gelding.
I was in a really bad riding accident 3 years ago while on a hack, it was no one’s fault just one for those things that happens, I got crushed by my sisters horse and ever since I have lost my bottle.
I am looking for SANE and safe, I think that sums it up lol Would anyone be able to recommend anyone near the Essex area as this would make it easier for me to view that might be able to help me? I am looking to spend between £2000 to £3500 maybe more for the right horse.
Thank you all in advance :)

I actually bought her through a bloodstock agent because she was bred and owned by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. He breeds lots of endurance horses as well as racehorses.

It would be worth keeping an eye on the Arabian Lines sales pages because endurance horses needing a slightly quieter life (all the hacking I want to do is going to be easy when they used to do 100 mile races ;) ) do come up.

Please consider an older horse (everyone seems to want their horse to be under 10!). My girl (who isn't for sale) now at 15 is a complete school mistress and has given me all the confidence in the world this Summer - but at 10 she took it all away.

I would be looking for something that has been out and about, an ex-show horse, ex-endurance horse or an all rounder who has done all the pony club/low level eventing, etc just something with a good solid experience of life behind it.

I can't recommend Clip Clop traders enough. Never bought from a dealer before but have had my lovely boy 3 months now and the experience buying from Emma was great. I wanted a youngster, but they have a lovely boy on website called Roger who is 8 or 9 and could be perfect for you.

A number of us on here have got their horses from Emma so lots of feedback on the forum.

oh he has lovely horses I used to ride for him years ago doing the Endurance horses based In Hants, was such a fab job such beautiful horses too I had my favourite he was a french arab 15.3 bright chestnut was a strong lad but we gelled so much, I would've loved to buy him we had many a fun ride and hacking out alone bimbling along he was an awsome horse really miss him.

Arabs can be great for hacking like endurance ones as they have been there seen it got the t shirt written the book etc... unless its a highly strung one.
Id have one in a heart beat such good fun.

Thank you everyone for your help so far, I am definitely looking for an older horse that has the experience and knowledge under his or hers belt. I'm not going to buy the first one I see, I going to try and be sensible lol x

Very wise. :) Good luck with your search.

MW - lucky, lucky you.

ETA. I'm just wondering if you knew my mare? She's 14 now and the contact address on her passport is Kelanne Stud?

Ex polo pony. Totally bomb proof and would never dream of napping, bucking, rearing etc... plus cantering is their job, not something exciting!

Dittto, def look older, teenage horses are much nicer "people"!

I agree with this. My 17yo hunter is a wonderful confidence giver - I have a young horse now because my big lad can't jump over 2ft6 and wants a slightly quieter life. For someone who wanted to hack (he is a fantastic hack - goes first or last cantering, wonderful on fun rides), he'd be perfect as he's impeccably mannered. Has enough spark still left about him to do the odd DR test and can still work nicely in the school when you learn the right buttons to press. He'll be taking my sharer out hunting for the first time (for her) in a few weeks. I wouldn't have been able to ride one side of him when he was under 10yo, I'm sure.

So I agree, look for an older horse who seen it all but still has enough spark left to be fun. Every year I say I'll retire my big lad but every year, he still proves to be full of life and enjoying himself.

Hmmm very possibly yes, I used to work there Kelanne yes in Hambledon, the Endurance's were at Hill House behind the main racehorse yard... gorgeous place.

Pm me details if you want, see if I know or I will be able to get any info as I know others that used to work there too.
I had my fav called Iverlick.

I've been looking for a horse for a good few months now in Essex, specifically stated in my advert looking for a FIRST HORSE, native type, something at least 10 years or older and have been inundated with responses with just back four years, green youngsters and TBs! Ones that sound suitable are at least three hours drive and having driven all over the place viewing horses that have not been described, I'm not prepared to travel that far and waste my time and petrol! Good luck, hope you find something suitable! :)

I know what you mean, only this weekend we went to go and see this apparently completely boom proof, non strong, suitable for teenager and nervous novice, complete confident giver and so on. We stress strongly over the phone that we where looking for a novice ride and she reassured us that we would not be disappointed, well lets just say Im glad I am good at hanging on !! LOL The horse bolted and I couldn't stop it regardless of what I did! the signs where there it was in a gag, flash ect and when we asked her about it ( before we got on) she said ' I ride all of my horses in a gag and he likes it ?' :S
It just frustrates me because people could get seriously hurt :(

I found one for my mum early this summer, about 20 mins from us on horsedeals :D She has been exactly what was said on the tin and worth her weight in gold.

I would prefer a private seller, rather than a dealer. It tends to be easier to sound out private ones as they arent professional sales people and if lying, will eventually slip if you ask enough questions.

Some ive found quickly

That first one sounds nice but I am a bit bemused by "won't pass a flexion text but is completely sound".

I've also had similar answers from sellers who justify why they ride a horse in a grackle and in a gag on the bottom ring!

And if it bucks enough that they list it in the ad I bet it does it all the time! Cynic I am.
