Confidence Hacking

Hi me and my daughter share a horse who we have has for over a year he is a great lad and hasnt really put a foot wrong but is very strong so I won't let my daughter hack him out on her own yet - he is only young so when he goes out it is strictly walk and maybe a bit of trot but I get nervous don't know why so have stopped taking him out & just school instead - when daughter goes out on him I walk with her but I always worry about noises & what might be round the corner - if you know what I mean- I know that he is a good boy and he's not at all spooky but my nervousness is getting to my daughter and the horse is also probably picking up - yes we have to go on the road but it's not a busy road just lots of tall hedges etc - you know the scary ones (to me anyhow) any ideas how I can get over this issue or is it just something that will come through time & perserverance xx

Prehaps hack out with someone so you can have a chat and hopefully this will take your mind off of things If your worrying it wont help your boy so maybe hacking out with a nice confident horse and rider would be helpfull

Its called being a Mum... take a friend with you to chat to or as the other poster says, someone on a reliable horse. Might be better if your daughter could hack out with another person who is responsible, has a good horse out in traffic, and you stay back at the yard. Get yourself a cuppa and a mag and wait for them to come home. Might be better all round and allow you to let go.

Hi Thanks for your answers - they went along the lines of what I was thinking anyway - my otherhalf was going to take daughter for a walk today but called it off because its tipping it down - I have also has a chat with some others on the yard that I can tag along with they are out on a walk its not going to be as bad as I think its going to be - It will all come in time its not a race

hey pansy i totally understand where you are coming from. i am the same with my horse in fact its on my to do list for this year.
my horse is also very young and very strong. but this week i took the bull by the horns and i have done two different walks around the lanes by where i keep my horse i am going to build me and him up slow and steady.
i am lucky i have some really nice liveries at my yard and they are happy to let a nervous wreck come along

its a gas really as when i am in the school there is no bother even when he gets strong.
i guess it will take time

Hi I could do & may also ask about that - but I dont think that will solve the problem - she is very confident & hacks out quite regulary - just not on him (& with me in tow) -It is probably me that has made it worse to be honest -We just need to get on with & I need to stop worrying - when we have another nice day they are going to go for a short walk either with my OH or someone else @ the yard & will go from there a little at a time xx
