just a quick update regarding my mare and my confidence.

I made the decision to sell my mare and advertised her a couple of weeks ago. Today - without the pressure of HAVING to get on her - i decided that i would bite the bullet and actually got on.
So got my YO/trainer to work her as normal, then I grabbed my hat and got on. Not only did i sit on my mare for the first time in 8 months i also walked halfway around the arena!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cue me bursting into tears and sobbing on her back for 10 minutes!!!!!!!

Have now decided im getting back on tomorrow and walking around the whole school on both reins - might only be baby steps bt im trying LOL

for them few minutes i actually felt that i could come through this and eventually ride her in the style she deserves - onwards and upwards. she is still for sale but you never know - i might change my mind later

Good for you. Well done you for being so fantastically brave, be proud of yourself. Remember most of us have gone through it, you are not alone!

Well done you! That is brilliant. Getting on the first time is the hardest thing to do, and you've done it!

I am so pleased you did it. I posted on your original message and really felt for you - I've been in a similar position. Flippin' well done.

Update tomorrow then?.....

Was feeling crap about my horse then read this- your inspiring- see i cant spell either. If after loosing confindence that badly you can get back on and plan baby steps i can bloody well sort myself out too. well done and thankyou xx

Well done you and join the club! One of our horses is up for sale because of my daughter's confidence crisis too. She's blind and is petrified of having to use a whip or spurs, so vicious, circle horse takes advantage and is bone idle.

After two weeks with the only enquiries being from people who want loans and someone not turning up to view she decided to beat her bogeys. The easiest thing for her is for one of us to ride him first and then put her on but as a para rider she's not allowed that luxury. This time instead of crying she shouted and swore at him and it worked. Within two minutes he was working like an elementary level dressage horse under her. Day one was just walk and trot, day two she asked for a whip and without using it she had the most beautiful canters then threw away the whip again.

The only thing she's worried about now is the fact that she swore. I'll start to worry if she does it in public and be looking for somewhere to hide.

This new found confidence may not last very long, it hasn't before but every little bit of progress is a blessing. So when you ride your horse tomorrow I hope you'll be proud of yourself. No more tears, just think you can be as strong as Alison and you will. We don't care about the horse not selling at the moment and I hope you'll be able to keep yours. Just remember to take small bites of the apple.
