went cross contry for the 1st time in 2 years today, on a horse i know really well and have jumped xc on him millions of times, but i looked at every jump and thought twice about jumping everything, i know he will and can jump but if i try and hold him back i mess up his strides which puts me off even more, but if i let him place himself he goes at it at full pelt!!

im being stupid coz i know he can do it and iv done it on him before so when we go xc in a few weeks i want to be more confident.... how can i convince myself to be!!

the good thing about today tho, is that i did push myself over a few bigger jumps and ended on a good note. just hate the feeling of walking away thinking i could have done better.

This happens to me at the start of the year sometimes and I think you just need to keep it really easy and little until you get both your rhythm going and your eye in. I also find the more I do indoor events and showjumping, the more confident I get. The thing is not to worry and really enjoy it. Doesn't matter if your horse has done Badminton, if you are both out enjoying popping some easy manageable fences safely and confidently. In time, it will come back, and not too long away either!
