I don't think you've killed him, probably found for the first time he operates better whe bit of the aggro has been removed with work...
It does sound as if he is improving with every new thing he attempts, so I think you will find he is fine on Wednesday.
Layla is having a year and a half off if we can get her in foal, firstly th injuries will have plent of time to heal, secondly she will learn to be more careful on her feet after time spent on our rougher grazing and thirdly, a Layla /Chocolate baby will be worth having..
