I’ve just bought this pony with this leg.. I got him on the cheap for this reason. I wondered what prospects he has as an adult? He’s 18 months old now. As in what level of work he’ll be able to do and what age I can expect arthritis etc.?

Hard to tell from that photo, but it looks like he has an offset cannon / bench knee. As for future outcomes, only time will tell. There are plenty of horses with wonky legs that never take a lame step, and plenty with "perfect" conformation that go radically wrong. If I was you I wouldn't lose sleep over it and wait to see what fate has in store.

i suppose it depends if the knee bones have closed up, talk to a specialist horse vet would be my way to go, and then another and so on until someone comes up with a good knowledge, possibly a vet who sees at lot of thoroughbreds, and a farrier who gets keeping tb legs from going wonky

x ray may be useful, he`s kind of on the verge where it may be possible to improve the leg, although things do happen, are you sure he`s 18 months

It’s difficult to tell from the angle of that photo, but if you have the level of deviation it is tending to suggest it would be worth getting an experienced vet to check. Knee growth plates are closing about now so your timeframe to do something about it (if it’s possible, it may not be) is short.

Whilst I completely agree that there are all sorts of funky wonky legs out there doing good jobs it wouldn’t be something I’d actively be looking to take on in a young horse.

A friend had a previously straight horse go wonky at this age and it turned out that it had taken a bash, one side of the knee slowed in its growth requiring surgical intervention.

If it's as bad as it looks from that photo I'm afraid I wouldn't be hopeful that he will ever stand up to work, and just be grateful for every day that he does. I would also be trying to keep him at a max condition score of 5/10 so as to put as little wear and tear as possible on the leg.
