Musing away as I do, I’m trying to get my head around conformation and I wondered if you lovely people would be able to help me out so be prepared for some very numpty questions (please excuse me if I sound like I make no sense LOL) :p

With a short back (I think I read somewhere that it’s easier to collect? – correct me I’m totally wrong) would this be harder for the horse to lengthen even though it’s got long legs and a sloping shoulder? And with the leg longs and short back, would the horse over-reach itself naturally? Would a horse with a short back be harder / easier to collect (still having long legs)?

Hope I have explained myself OK LOL
Thanks :D

I would ignore how easy it is to collect as that depends on the horses ability to work correctly over its back - ime a long backed or short backed horse each have their own weaknesses to overcome when aiming for that!
Without a doubt there will be a generous amout of horses which don't follow the norm, but on the whole: A short backed horse will generally find it easier to shorten, a longer backed horse will find it easier to lengthen. I've not found any difference in their propensity to overreach.
