A bit of an odd one, because I like asking daft questions!

Much as I love my little horse, I always think that his legs look somewhat out of proportion to his body and I would very much like him to have a bit more depth.

He has just turned 7 years old and basically had done nothing before I got him a year ago, the hope is that we will aim for tiny eventing.... is there anything I can do to encourage 'depth' development? I appreciate that this isn't the best picture - it was literally a snap on my phone this morning - and that he needs topline as well, that is work in progress :)

He is lovely :)

The more topline he gets, the better he will fill the eye. But you can't improve depth as such.

I think he would look super smart really trimmed up.

Clip those legs out :)

Exactly what I was going to say! Mines a traditional cob but always looks a bit leggy to my eye, so hes been hogged and clipped. Little monkey didnt want his legs clipping so hes a stripey, patchy mess till I can get some sedation for him, but he looks better proportioned already.

Omg yes you have no idea how keen I am to have them done!!! I absolutely hate them!

V is at Tattersalls this week with the big boys so the lovely girls on the yard have assured me that they should have time to clip his legs and sort his mane & tail :)

He is a nice type. You can't do much about his basic conformation, which isn't bad, his legs look good in the photo, but it is amazing the difference regular work and schooling does.

I always love doing before and afters, it's incredible what judicious trimming can do to improve a horse's appearance. I only wish I could figure out how to do it to myself :D

You and me both :D I am going to ask the girls just to wave their magic wand and make him look like an eventer.... :D

You dont need clippers to do the legs. Just use a stool, pulling comb and sharp scissors. Comb the hair backwards and as the hair goes through the comb cut it off. Dont cut without the comb first or you will get doorsteps!! You can get a really good finish this way. You just need patience ;-)

He's a similar type to my boy - I had a super time pulling his mane and scissoring his feathers (doesn't like clippers). He looks like a totally different animal.
Your boy is lovely - but pulled and trimmed he will look amazing.
