Confused about insurance

Hiya

After yesterdays goings on I am definitely going to join BHS as a gold member.

What I need to know is that as a gold member I know I get public liability for my yearling and insurance for me but does the insurance for me cover me if I ride any other horses or just riding a horse owned by me?

It covers you riding any horse as long as it is not on a professional basis (i.e you don't get paid!)

Is it the same for the public liability too then? I was under the impression that it only applied to owned horses?

As far as I know the PL under the BHS membership covers the person insured (ie you) and is not specific to individual horses you own. Hence it covers YOU should you ride anyone else's horses or your own.

Although I would double check the circumstances as it may not cover you PL wise if you are riding horses as part of your job (ie being paid to do it). You would need more specialist PL cover for that.

Sorry to piggyback, but this is a similar question, and I am about to buy some sort of insurance......

I'm also looking at this, but have been given information on the insurance offer that goes with being a member of World Horse Welfare - anyone else come across this? A member?

Does anyone know if the policies are identical?
